2 is still probably my favorite. It was interesting that they scaled back the craziness a bit from 3 where Drake seems indestructible from all the insane shit he survives. I will say this is possibly the most technically impressive game I've ever played. All the mocap acting and crazy setpieces and little programming flags and the meticulous attention to detail and polish is immaculate.

The story actually has some emotional depth this time around. It is still at its core a big cheesy action game so I'm glad they didn't get too melodramatic, but I like that they made the characters feel slightly more human so there's a little bit of an "oh fuck" feeling when they're in danger or at odds with each other.

Agree with what a lot of people have said on the melee system. I don't like that there's not block/counter anymore unless you get grabbed. But as a side note

Would anyone else totally play a whole game with combat structured around similar mechanics to that last fight? It kind of scratched a long dormant punch-out itch.

Probably the weakest game in the series for me. I don't know why they made the combat worse after they figured it out in Uncharted 2, Sam's appearing out of nowhere without Drake mentioning him once reeked of contrivance, the prologue went on too long before the game actually started, tacked on stealth, horrible melee combat (Hi Nadine's fights) and an utterly predictable plot that I guessed pretty much every major twist of before the halfway mark. But it is very pretty, I'll give it that.

I'm kind of tired of Naughty Dog's sacred cow status after this. The game's frankly one of the weakest to play and I wasn't that enthused about the story (Where the heck are Cutter and Chloe?). In short, it's basically every problem I had with Last of Us all over again, barring "Everyone's an asshole." I guess one improvement's better than none.

Everything is refined to hell and back. It controls like a dream and moves like freaking magic. It's a shame most everyone will just be spamming the x button during climbing, because the way Drake reaches and moves his weight around during slow climbing is fenomenally animated. Drake no longer moves like a rubber man, but like an actual human being.

The shooting is also way better, in that it's no longer frustrating and it's easier to take enemies out in quick volleys. And enlarging the arenas makes getting out of dangerous situations much easier, too. If the shooting in the Uncharted games is like a bag of potato chips, the previous games were like having some of those rock hard, tasteless pieces among the contents, taking you out of the snack experience every few hand-fulls, whereas in Uncharted 4 you're just comfortably munching down on the salty goodness.
The shooting and the controls are the worst it's ever been in Uncharted IMO. Because the areas are so much bigger with more cover, Drake even more so than previous games will take cover when you want to roll or vice verse. Then, they add the ability to cover swap 90 degrees on an object but that just causes Drake to stick to the outer edge of a piece of cover when you want to run forward around a corner. The cover system in Uncharted hasn't been fixed since the 1st game. Just steal Ubisoft's cover system, Uncharted with a cover swap system would be so much fun. The shooting is just bad, there's just something off about the aiming, maybe the acceleration (I have all assists off). There's literally no point to the AK47 when it's less accurate than a pistol and takes just as long to kill with, the Raffica pistol is a much better gun than the AK. Not only does the AK47 have normal up/down recoil but it also has left/right recoil and I'm always shooting around the enemy's head. Uncharted is an arcade shooter, not some military shooter, the amount of recoil the standard AR has is ridiculous. Uncharted 4 has kinda devolved back to Uncharted 1 where pistols are better than ARs.

I just beat it. I started on Hard Mode, which I never do, but felt confident going into Uncharted 4, it's not my first rodeo. Was the lack of a reticle in cover a thing in Hard or was that present on lower difficulties, too? I ask as it made aiming shots insanely difficult when I had to guess where I would be aiming, and get as close as I could to where I wanted to shoot when I came out of cover. And it's there in multiplayer.

And Holy Hell is the game evil on Hard Mode. Plenty of shotgun users in small corridors making life Hell. And any of those areas that are intended to be difficult are near instant death on Hard. I died so many times on so many areas. Sometimes after barely accomplishing anything. It got to the point that I loved the areas where I could do stealth as it allowed me to avoid firefights. Seriously, I was cursing the uselessness of the AI companions as they really don't help in Hard.

Basically, be ware of playing it on Hard. I shudder to think what Crushing must be like. One shot from a pistol and you're dead.
I'm playing on Hard because Uncharted 2 and 3 were perfect on Hard due to Normal being joke easy. After reading this, I'm going to drop it to Normal. Upping the damage / lowering Drake's health doesn't make the game harder, it just makes you play whack-a-mole more and removes the fun of being able to do some crazy shit and actually pull it off, sorta the point of games like this. Hard in Uncharted 4 is basically Crushing from the previous games.

I have no clue about the reticle and I didn't even notice it not being there because TPSs are what I play most competitively and I just know to center the camera on the enemy and then shoot.
