ZOMGBBQ. So beautiful! Awesome name too :3 I want one, why aren't there more Bengal cats in the UK? ):
They are very valuable to the pet trade. Easily worth around £1000 each. Unfortunately, many are stolen each year as a result of this so I think owners of Bengals are reluctant to let them wander outside. :(
Yep. Boba was a gift, but he cost $800. That was actually a very discounted price. We got lucky, having found a very talented breeder that was just getting her program really off the ground. We had several breeders attempt to "out bid" us while we waited for him to grow. From what I've seen, in the last year the lady has had her cats featured in multiple cat magazines and whatnot. She's even added a genuine Asian Leopard Cat to her program, to have more control over the features I suppose. It's all very fascinating, scientifically...

By the way, Boba is only allowed out of the house when he is being leash walked.

p.s. Eevee... The beautiful ones always break our hearts, eh?

That's a beautiful Bengal!
Thank you!

Bengals are so much win. Now I feel like posting mine as well.

Proof of cuddlyness, even when I'm playing FF13-2 he craves attention:

As I said, he's our lil' hunter. He was so proud with this catch. But then again he always is. Whenever he catches something he walks over, meows (something he never does) so we'll follow him and he shows us his trophy. And then he eats it all up like a good little kitty.

They're a little vague because I suck at making photos with my cellphone but you get the idea. Oh and I just have to post this one:

As you can see we freakin' love cats though I would've picked less silly names. Shame we don't have a dog as well but you can't have everything eh?

I also sort of forgot whether I posted my own pic on here. So I'll just do that now.

I'm not massively knowledgeable on pedigree cat breeding but with dogs many prized breeds end up with inherited predispositions to disease or illness. Seeing how relatively rare they are, do bengals in your area have the same problem?

So prized is the distinctive fur pattern I wouldn't be surprised if breeders get over zealous when choosing the right cats to breed from, incest and the like. Sounds like you got yours from a decent breeder though so that's good news. Although you say he's mischievous, nobody wants a King Joffrey for a pet ;)

I wouldn't class Joffrey as "mischievous" but more like "being a sadistic, in-bred despotic douchenozzle."

As for your question, some purebred cats do suffer from issues as well. But as far as I know Bengals are pretty hardy cats.

As far as health issues... he was very carefully examined since birth. He had a slight heart murmur, but he seems to have outgrown it. He also has a somewhat sensitive tummy, so I feed him low ingredient food with high quality protein to help him out (salmon). Unfortunately, he's such a terror that he actually fights the dog and steals his kibble... lol.

What a badass, amirite?
Haha, totally! He usually catches something every two-ish days. We're pretty fortunate we can just let the roam around as we live in a quiet backwater village. Little fear of having them run over or something. And as they're all basic, farm-born cats they're not really valuable like your Bengal either. I do expect our lil' (well, he's pretty big) Pim to have some Bombay blood.

Funny thing as well, while he's far from a lap cat I'm the only one in the house who can pick him, flip him over in one smooth motion and hold him like a little baby, looking at me with that vampire smile waiting to be throat-scratched. Sometimes he even falls asleep like that.

DUDE, I know what you mean! Boba attacks everything in the house. Guys, dogs, inanimate objects... except me. I'm the only person he never ninja attacks. And when you pick him up under his arms he just goes entirely limp, I guess it's the show cat in him.

I've thought about it and I think it's because I'm the alpha. I provide the food, cuddles, grooming, and kitty waterboarding (not really, more like squirt bottling...) when necessary. You're probably the alpha in your pack too, since he's hunting for you.

Well I guess he doesn't lack a fighting spirit! That's good though, it's devastating to learn that your pet has epilepsy etc not to mention guilty about the fact we cause it as owners want want conformity in our pedigree animals.

I study breed development as part of my degree, hence the interest.

He almost looks as intimidating as the tiger picture I posted in the man eaten by tiger thread!

Naw, he's just a little tyke bless him... ;)

It's surprising though, there can't be that big a bengal gene pool to breed from which causes problems.

I get that a lot. I tend to sit in trees. I am most definitely a flower-child.

This is me, a Jewish nerdy bookworm girl! I bought a super cute summer hat that I need to take a picture of. It compliments my bookwormish, geek chic psuedo artsy hipster look. ^^ I like to think of myself as a real life Yomiko Readman. I need to make a good cosplay of hers, because I could see wearing an outfit like hers as part of normal attire =P.
You look awesome cerealnmuffin. Well, while I'm here I might as well show my ugly mug.

Thanks for the compliment. ^^ I used to view myself as rather ugly, mainly due to my nose (was bullied a lot over it, even by adults). Recently, I've been working on not being so down about myself. =) Your kind words reassured me that the jerks from my past weren't right.

You're definitely not ugly at all. You're not the flashy makeup all day type but beauty can exist in many forms. Oh and for the record I didn't even notice your nose in any of the pictures as something that looked off in any way.

(I'm in the middle, in between my cousins) Sorry to hear that you went through that. People kinda suck sometimes. You have really nice bone structure though, honest.

Most Persian women end up getting nose jobs... I rather like my features now that I'm an adult though.
