What do you recommend? (Yes another anime thread)

There's Mnemosyne, which I haven't watched in its entirety but it has been recommended to me several times. Saw the first episode and thought it was alright but I have no clue what the series is about as a whole.

I'm going to go with the people that have said Baccano! It's a fantastic starter series. The only reason I've found that people hate it is because they don't want to deal with a disjointed plot (they don't pay attention to what they're watching/)

Quick question to add on to the OP: Does anyone know of any Steam-Punk anime? If you can't tell by the avatar, I'm a big fan of the Steam-Punk style.

I would suggest Paranoia agent, Cowboy bebop, FLCL, Blackjack, Samurai gun and Virus: virus buster Serge. I used to watch a lot of anime as a kid, but that waned some what as I grew up, but I can always sit down and watch the ones that I have mentioned.
