What do you think about squeals?

As I was playing some of my games today, I was thinking about what it would be like if they made a squeal. Like, for example, I was playing around with mods in Oblivion when I really wanted to play Morrowind again just because they had a crazy amount of weapons, like spears, crossbows ect.
And that got me kicked off on the idea of a good squeal. See there's a few types of squeals:

1. The fan. Well, the name says it. A squeal made by fans.
2. The money. A squeal just rushed out to make money.
3. The good. A squeal that uses the previous game as a jumping board, to make a good game into a great one.

4. Um... the swap? Well, this one is a pretty different one. I think TES is a great example of this. See, Oblivion is a perfect example. I'll explain. Ok, one thing that got on my tits was the fact that in Morrowind the only way to have a house was to be a high high high ranking person in one of the houses, then spend ages doing quests and waiting for it to be built. And they always ended up as a camp or a village or mining town ect. It didn't really feel like a home, because about 30 people were in the same house as you. Or just murder the person already living in a house you want, but, well, I want my own house, and besides, what happens if your character is a good, puppy loving, hair tussling, park skipping faggo-... hero. Now Oblivion, see, there still is quest-houses, a la Anvil and the DLCs. And they are a lot better, like a freakin castle and a pirate ship. Plus a magic fortress and a vampire den. And the Anvil house had a great story behind it. But there was also homes to buy. Waltz up to a count, talk to them, pay them 20 000 gold and ta da! a brand new home for you to sleep, store and punch people in. 1 point to Oblivion. Then we come to weapons and armour. Oblivion really falls short here. In Morrowind you could change your belt shoulders hands boots rings amulets ect ect. And you could customise both left and right sides, so you could have a different glove for each hand. And weapons was puppy crushing insane. Crossbows, spears, every type of sword, a billion different types of shields, knifes, maces, axes, staffs and more. Oblivion, however, only has a few choices for armour, and same with the weapons. Oh, did I mention that Morrowind had Shurikins? 1 point to Morrowind.

See, I could go on, but what I'm trying to say is with most games, squeals, while adding many things and fixing more, removes some of the old good things and some of the new things might just suck. See, I haven't played Mass effect 1 or 2, but I have watching Zero Punctuation and it seems that Yahtzee has said what I mean perfectly. Mass effect 1 vehicles were bad, so they were gone. Tick. But you couldn't go and explore the planets, instead you just scan them. Cross.

Really, what I'm getting at is, what do you think (game name here) next squeal should have? For example, for me it would be the next TES should contain co-op, preferably free roam.

Post yours here!

don't pigs squeal? I think the word your looking for is sequel.

also: the copy-paste; intertwines with the money one, a game which has all the mechanics (including the bad ones) with nothing changed but the story

I had a horrible squeal from the PSU on my old computer. It died shortly after and took the video card with it.

Yeah... proper spelling is good.

Lol, yeah, I just wrote a post about pigs... any way, I totally agree. I hate games that are just the old ones with the enemies just wearing different hats. Sorry bout the pigs
Edit: Lol, ABOUT the pigs.

Ummm... I believe the word you're looking for is "sequel".
Squeal is something piggys do. Or, city folk do when they go on rafting trips...

Anyhow, it's simply true that you can't please all the people all the time.
If you simply release more of the same, then people will gripe over the fact it's just like the last one.
If you change things, people will gripe that it's not like the last one.

Yeah, but at least change is a step forwards. Staying the same is just plain stupid. Why don't they just re play the last game, which is normaly better.

See, let me explain in detail what I mean. If you change something in a game, it is a step forward. It might be a drunken pointless step forward but it's still a bloody step!

Compared to copying which is just sitting on your arse eating cheese burgers. And sometimes, if a copy is bad enough, you become so fat on cheese burgers you roll over backwards and fall down a hill.

Change will always be better because at least then they can go, "Oh shit, a gun that makes enemies stronger probably isn't a good idea." And thus it shall be change. But then again, you might find someone stupid enough that thinks, "Oh boy, people hate the gun that makes enemies stronger, so I just make it stronger! Just because the squeaky toy in my brain told me to!"

Let's hope game designers are in the former catorgory.

...I'm sorry, any answer I could possibly give was buried under the squealing. Especially since it was apparently unintentional.

Whether it's a step forward, backward, lateral, or whatever depends on whether or not you like the change.

On TES, I started playing Oblivion and loved it. Then, I picked up a copy of Morrowind and hated it, because nothing worked (attack misses, spell fizzles, repair failures). So, when I look at the changes made from Morrowind to Oblivion, I think it's a step in the right direction.

On ME, I played the shit out of ME1, to get the "perfect Shepard" to prepare myself for ME2. And, when ME2 got here, I found a stinking pile of Gears of War. So, I think it's a step in the wrong direction.

Given to two comparisons, I can appreciate the reasoning behind opposing opinions, but in the that's all they are. Personal preferences.

Ok, ok, I get it, people don't like posts about pigs referring to games. But I don't see why you must post it...

Yes, I know overall Oblivion was way better than Morrowind, but what I was pointing out was that some SEQUELS change some things for the better, but others for the worst.

As long as a sequel stays close enough to the original, I have no problems picking it up, even if it is just made for the money. What counts most here for me is not necessarily the gameplay (it can play a part, but I don't play games just for awesome control schemes and options), but mostly the overall atmosphere and theme of the game.

Do:
Half-Life 2
Max Payne 2
Assassin's Creed 2

Don't:
Final Fantasy X-2
Prince of Persia: Warrior Within
GTA IV

Also: SQUEEEE!

Yes, see, thats the same with me. I hate games that just say, "America is da best! Bad guhs wantz it! They haz nukez! We stopz them!" I would swap out a chopper mission or a jetpack mission ect ect if the game is immersive. But, if its not fun, then I hope it likes the bottom of my bin.
