It's uncreative corporately manufactured garbage that gets forced down people's throats until they're brainwashed into liking it after hearing it on the radio for the 500th time.

I probably have shit taste but I love pop music. :p Well, there is a lot of really annoying crap ofcourse but the only time I actually listening to music is when driving, and then I like catchy tunes. For example the other day I was looping this tune all the time :p

I care about music that has meaning, pop music rarely does. Most of it is shallow, repetitive, and sometimes just offensive in how little it thinks of people.

In my opinion, 98% of pop music is the primary cause of ear cancer, most of it is utter crap. But like everything, there is some good stuff out there. Stuff like Transviolet,

Soft Toy Emergency

And even Chvrches

There's nothing inherently wrong with pop music. In fact, I believe there is no such thing as a bad musical genre, or style, whatever name you want to give it. There are only bad artists. Anything can be made to work through sheer talent (or even sometimes by stumbling upon it by plain luck).

Never heard of any of those you mentioned, OP. I'm sure back in the day I enjoyed some songs by the Spice Girls or the Backstreet Boys, etc., but it's been ages that I only listen to pop music when I'm driving and there's no other option. Even then, more often than not I'd rather hear the car/traffic/city noise.

This is basically my thoughts on "pop" music too. They're designed to be catchy, easily repeatable white noise to get stuck in your head on the way to work.

The worst part I think is that "pop stars" are just people with a good voice, as opposed to actual bands that play instruments and maybe even write the actual music they play instead of everything being man handled by a corporation riding the ass of the latest teen beauty marketing music exclusively to young girls.

Now here's hoping checking out those vids you linked doesn't ruin my youtube life with a whole bunch of shitty music popping up in my recommends and side bars.

All of these are true. Particularly Saelune pointing out that Pop's offensive in how little it thinks of people. It's basically "zero effort noise," yet these "stars" can sell out auditoriums peddling it. It all sounds the same; even their voices are starting to sound the same with all the over-production and artifice. It?s just? DUMB.

Um...yeah, I'm totally also not a fan of pop music, and not just saying this to avoid looking stupid. Really. I've not recently purchased a bunch of pop albums, nor do I download pop videos. Yeah.

Pretty much the opposite of a poptimist nowadays. There are very few pop songs I actually like. But then, I listen to a lot of black metal, hardcore, and gangsta rap, so my tastes obviously aren't in line with modern pop trends anyway.

You pretty much sound like my dad, making the exact same complains about pop music back in the 80's while hearing The Who, Jethro Tull, Asia and Ozric Tentacles.

Lol, not quite the same! Even as a child, I didn?t enjoy the popular music of my time/generation, and for pretty much the same reasons, so I?ve no issue with ?the changing times.? I listen to electronic music (have for decades) which I?ve always found more thoughtful, artful and intellectually stimulating, but perhaps that?s the introverted artist in me that requires more for my attention. Electronic music elicits thoughts and complex emotions without the need of base and repeated tropes let alone vehicles for pageantry and fame. Pop music is, at best, throwaway entertainment. I can admit some of it is catchy and the occasional Pop earworm will infect me (i.e.: a few weeks ago, my girlfriend had to stop me from humming Maroon 5?s ?Wait? about 4 dozen times,) but ?entertaining? is not intellectually ?fulfilling.? If Maroon 5 was coming town tomorrow and I had free tickets, I?d scalp them in a heartbeat; not even necessarily to the highest bidder; the first person to ask, just gimme whatever you?ve got in your pocket. A ball of lint and a McDonalds receipt? You?ve gotta deal.

I planned to post my opinion, but the first comment already perfectly describes how I fell about pop music.

I mean, sure, pop has some rare gems every now and then. All genres have that, some more than others. But 95% of the time pop music horrible if you want good, creative and/or deep music.

I do like a decent amount of pop music from the 90's, but it's highly likely that is because I grew up in that era and due to not really having money when I was 6~14 my only options were generally radio or what my parents listened to. Once I started sharing music with friends, and later on once I had access to the internet, the genres I listened to quickly changed to electronic/dance/harcore. And not long after that I went to rock and metal, which are still the main genres I listen to.

I listen to a lot of it due to my job and don't mind it, so I guess I find it alright.

Basically, I have no strong feelings one way or the other.
