What do you think of The Escapist community as a whole?

I think it's a primarily male community that is overly sexist, racist and homophobic. Many of them have little clue as to how the world really is. Or how women really are for that matter. Or how anything really is for that matter.

It's a male dominated sphere. With male dominated opinions and bias on everything. A differing opinion in any way, shape or form on the site is typically attacked ruthlessly and for little reason other than it being a differing opinion.

As a female poster here and a survivor of sexual assault, I have been harassed, have had numerous rape jokes sent to me personally, been victim and slut shamed, told I am looking to be offended, called a Feminazi for simply being a woman and more.

I don't really enjoy this forum. I basically just come to remind myself how backwards some people really are.

You should forward those messages to the mods. Such behavior is unacceptable, deplorable and against forum rules.
Probably doesn't mean much but I'm sorry you're being harassed.

Personally, It's one of my favorite communities on these here interwebz...but yeah, it has its problems.

I mean theres always gonna be the odd troll (that, thankfully, the mods usually get), but when the enitre site is just fixating over Sexism, Anita Sarkeesian, Take Back Mass Effect or how console gamers are destroying gaming....it gets annoying. The mods can be a bit....overzealous once in a while too. [small]please dont ban me[/small]

Overall though, I like it alot. When theres not the pseudo-intellectual attitude toward gaming (Which, I will admit, I am a part of) being thrown about, its a fun time with some great people on forums that really require you to think before you post.

It's generally a helpful and courteous community too, and defiantly passionately opinionated, which I count to be 80% a good thing and about 20% sometimes a bit of a bad-thing lol.

You know it is one of the better experiences I have had it is in many ways the total reverse of Yahoo! answers. Here almost everyone is here for honest conversation ans there are very few trolls and when trolls do hit they are generally just shut down also people do not make guaranteed claims on something that they actually do not have even the most basic grasp of.

It is a wonderful site filled with wonderful people! Even with all the arguing, it just makes the site more interesting!

I mostly post in User Groups and the Forum Games but I often come to the forums to see the latest topics and contribute! This place is also where I get all my gaming (and odd) news.

I think I have friends here than I have in town!

Can't be drunk, on holiday in Florida and the legal drinking age is 21 (woe is me, 19 year old Irish with no alcohol)

Hey don't laugh! It sucks that my parents can drink while I am there drinking Dr Pepper without vodka (although refills are free in TGI Fridays so that is something)

That is, when there are no threads complaining about "sexism" in the gaming industry, Anita Sarkeesian, or why I shouldn't like a game because my opinion is subjectively wrong or whatever the kids are coming up with these days.

The Escapist will be my internet home until the end times, and for good reason.

A lot of the users here a really friendly.
The content from Jim, Yahtzee, the LRR team, and everyone else is extremely entertaining.
I can gush about Persona 4 without consequences. (JOIN THE PERSONA USER-GROUP, DAMMIT!)
The staff are excellent and always give me something great to read. (MISS YOU ALREADY, SUSAN)
Critical Miss is great for cynical comedy every once and a while.
The mods keep the forums clean of scumbags.

AND SO MUCH MORE.

Seriously, I love this place to death and I would be devastated if something happened to it.

I've enjoyed being a part of the community since I first joined, and plan to continue enjoying it for some time. Discussion is good, nice variety of people, great content, moderators are vigorous enough to stamp out trolls and disrespect. My only real complaint is that there seems to be way too much hatred towards religion on the board. I understand that some people have a bit of a bone to pick with religion, but some of the things I've seen written around here about religious followers are just appalling. Apparently fundamentalism and intolerance are acceptable so long as they're directed at people you don't like.
