Whats wrong with you people?

I for one am pretty hyped about the game, sure disapointment is a part of every potentional sequel but everything I have read has put any fears to rest.
By being the first big daddy you have a much stronger conection to rapture so atleast it shows them telling a different story plus you also have the Big sister hunting you down which should be fun plus she captures children from the surface to take back to rapture and turn into little sisters.

Face it 2K would be complete idiots to not make a sequel for bioshock and they are atleast trying to change direction showing how rapture is faring without Atlus or Ryan and its looks a lot more bleak.

im not expecting much from it.... the announcement of shoehorned multiplayer has disappointed me to think that the games story and enviornment will be brought down because of the need to put in an unnecessar amenitie in the game.

Half the feelings of BioShock 1 was the idea that you were a newcomer. Big daddies are far from newcomers to Rapture, so half the atmosphere is wiped out. I disapprove.
The thing is, if you played another newcomer then it wouldn't be the same either because you, as the player, wouldn't be new to the environment.

Would have been better to make a prequel. I would have enjoyed seeing and participating in the downfall of Rapture.

Maybe I'm just being optimistic, but with he way the voiceover says something to the effect of "bioshock 2 allows you to step into the shoes of a big daddy" With the key word being allow. Maybe you can chose what side of the story you take part in perhaps, a guy who wonders in, a big daddy, a big sister, a splicer

It would be rather interesting effectively giving multiple games in one, as well as giving a multilayer mode more meaning

I couldn't even force myself to finish the first game, so I'm not going to bother with this one. I finished about 75% of the first but that's something for another thread.

My first reaction when I read that you could play as a big daddy was: Why would you ever play as a big daddy? They're limited to either a melee attack or some nail gun and the ability to throw things.(I think it was a nail gun, can't remember) Sure, even with the limited possibilities of that you could add fixed areas to change your weapon.
When I saw that you get magic... Why? What's the point of it? Yeah, you're some special big daddy, isn't that great. Why can't later big daddy models use magic? It would certainly help it's ability to protect the little sisters.

Hell, it would have made more sense if they made the big daddy you play as some form of experimental one. One designed to replace the little sisters. Strong ADAM collector with some minor magic abilities to protect itself. Being an experiment, it would make sense that you don't exactly behave like a regular big daddy.

I would type more, but I'm tired so I hope this explained what I was trying to say.
One, it's plasmids not magic
Two, you are an experiment. You are a prototype Big Daddy, the first one. You were locked away somewhere for years because your creators couldn't control you and make you protect the little sisters.
1 - Doesn't matter how you call it, you're still making bees fly out of your arms.

2 - The last thing I would expect from any scientist, is that they ignore and throw away a 'prototype' before they completely understand it. From what I've seen in that trailer, the history is: scientists create monster; fail to control monster; try to kill monster but fail at that too. If the game was before rapture was the mess it is in the game, the monster would have awakened and start hunting the people that made it. The movie game would end with the 35-40 year old brown haired hero, former marine, killing the monster and getting the girl, a 25-30 year old blonde-haired woman with a cute face and large breasts. The closing scene would be the two of them escaping rapture while it explodes/collapses in a semi-romantic moment and the final frame would be the shadows of them kissing with the dust clouds of rapture in the background.

Playing as the big daddy seems really interesting, but I doubt there's much of anything else new with the big daddy also having almost the same powers.I hope the story'll be good.

Bioshock does not need a sequal. The first game was great. This game has soulless first person shooter written all over it. They seem to be pushing this "cool you get to be a big daddy" crap instead of pushing story and atmosphere. You would be hard pressed to find someone who loved Bioshock purely because they thought it was a good shooter.

It will probably be a good game, but it won't be a good Bioshock game.
Couldn't have said it better myself.

It would probably have done better if it was called something else, and followed some other theme...but I'll still like it, odds are.

Well, considering how well made the first game was, it really didn't need a sequel. But in these troubled economic times, who wouldn;t love the idea of the Bishock gravy train heading into Profit City. The gasoline to power said train? A sequel.

This is less about pleasing the fans, and more about making money off the fans blinded with anticipation they buy the game without researching or renting it first.

Despite that though, I'm looking forward to it nonetheless. I'm just going to be much more wary this time around.
Not all sequals are for the sake of profit. Dunno about Bioshock 2, but some sequals are made for the sake of the FANS. TES V is being made not for money but because alot of people liked Morrowind which was made cause people liked Daggerfall wich was made cause people liked Arena which was made for the sake of making a fun RPG game.
Sequals are nice when you like a particular fiction world and want to know more about it. What if there was just 1 Star Wars movie, or just 1 Aliens, or just 1 Final Fantasy?

Sorry for the off-topic rant, but some things just set me off.

i'm not going to shit on concept of bioshock 2 just because it's a sequel and wasn't entirely necessary. i like the idea of being some kind of 'super' big daddy and it'll go in a different direction which'll be... you know, nice. it's still in rapture which is cool, and it can add a different dimension to it, so yeah i like the new concept personally.

That video was phenomenal, I've never been a fan of escort missions, but from what I saw I think it will work. More importantly I like that it feels like they didn't try to just rehash the original. It's a new dynamic and in many ways an original game, just set in the fantastical world of Rapture. Just as an aside, after hearing the phrase "Big Sister is always watching" I am concerned about what they are going to be doing to Ayn Rand, but across the board I'm still hopeful.

Playing a Big Daddy (the FIRST Big Daddy, if I'm not entirely mistaken) is a brilliant idea, if you ask me. It will give a game I love a slightly different spin, and I already find the potential storyline totally intriguing. This is a big one I'm looking forward to.

If the game turns out bad, I will agree with the majority. If not I am calling every single one of you tossers! (referring to the ones that hate the concept of course) Just hold your negativity for when the game is officially announced as "crap".

No, it is magic. Maybe you don't drink magic potions or cast spells, but you have an EVE bar with restoratives and unexplainable, elemental abilities. You can cover it with the blanket of soft-scifi, but it's still magic at it's heart.

Anyway, Bioshock 2. Too soon, also seems a bit misguided.
is the force magic?...no...so neither are plasmids...and it being too soon or misguided is just, like, your opinion man.

Um, yes, it is. An ability with religious/mystical overtones of an unmeasurable nature, is a much obvious example.
