What do you think the #1 hardest NES game is?

Wow, so many for TMNT - nice to know I'm not the only one.

I got past the dam level well enough. It just the problem of negotiating jumps across gaps and onto tiny ledges. It was bad enough the room before the dam section had a jump I still can't seem to do, forcing me to go aaalllll the way back to the right just to try again. But the 3rd level is why I've never beaten it: the whole thing is a maze to begin with, but the sewer section with the one pixel platform that, when you miss it, puts you in the water and sending you back to the beginning. I'd be so happy if I could go back one day and finally do it.

Also, Spiderman and the Sinister 6: Mysterio's level has these weird zombie enemies that, unless you have web shooters, will kill in about 2 hits. But you won't have webs because you shoot them every time you punch which is just terrible game design.

Also also: Day-Dreamin' Davey (curious if anyone's actually heard of it) - a kid who, naturally, daydreams and goes to a bunch of different worlds. A later one has him in Ancient Greece where he has to go to Tartarus but for some reason the game won't let me past this one section without sending me back to the beginning. The entire game is so ridiculously vague and barely gives you and idea what you're supposed to do that it's a wonder I made it as far as I did.

Lots of people have heard of it, thanks to this famous little number...

I had to pick it up just to try it myself and... damn.. you guys aren't kidding.

I don't remember hitting a tree, but I remember Charon. Right after that is the "quicksand" warp trap that I couldn't get past. Nice to know I wasn't missing much.

and if someone confirms me that battletoad us version on cart playing on the actual console (not emu) IS beatable im willing to give it another whirl (i havent replayed since it came out originally, i got stuck on some race and then my brother gave away the cart to some cousins on "loan" and i never saw that cart again, i bought it used some years ago but have never played it again)
i beat the original US NES cart once. took a lot of practice on a game genie first, but i was able to beat it without.

This makes me want to go back and try Blaster Master again... I mean, I've beaten TMNT, Battletoads, Ninja Gaiden (1&2), Mega Man (1 through 3, anyway)... but I never did finish Blaster Master. Never even tried Ghosts'n Goblins (first I'd ever heard of that series was Super Ghouls'n Ghosts... the controls felt... off... on that one)

Hardest, though? Of games I've at least seen played in person, probably Dirty Harry: The War Against Drugs. Jesus, that game was stupid.

Battletoads- seriously I hope whoever came up with that scooter level got fired.
I bet if I went now and played it I'd get my ass handed to me but I swear I finished it without any problems.

I think I was the one person it was made for or something. When I heard the jokes about battletoads I never got them because my brother and I loved the game.

Hydlide...now that's a retarded hard game >.>...

Mostly because its broken.

Considering my childhood, I'm going to say Battletoads, never beat it, same with Castlevania(thought at least with that game it felt that if I tried harder that I would finally beat it).

But in the end, NES games may be hard, but they've never lost their appeal. Finally having a job and using money I got from last Christmas, my NES library has more than double to around 46 different games. Awesomely so far, 9 of them are complete in box(E-bay is my friend for that, and surprisingly it isn't that expensive to get a CIB NES game in great condition).

In the interest of something different, I'm saying Air Fortress.
I actually got that one from an NES mystery grab bag that I bought at a retro store a couple weeks ago.

I didn't get to play it very long, but it didn't seem that hard, though I had had only enough time to beat the first fortress. So of course, I don't have a good enough perspective on it yet.
The first couple levels aren't too bad, but later they become much much more labyrinthine. Shit is flying around everywhere so much that it's almost impossible to avoid getting hit, and then of course the time limit.

Try Recca. No it's not really widescreen, but yes this is on an NES.
Now before anyone takes off for their favorite retro game dealers, this was made solely for a competition similar to the Nintendo World Championship, and like the NWC cart never saw any mass release, much less a Western one. So there should be no issue with picking it up in some other form.
