What do you want in a console?

I'd like to stand in solidarity with my brothers and sisters here and agree that what I want out of a console is the same thing I want out of a PC. I want to be able to play the games I want in peace without being bullied, browbeaten, spammed, jived and conned, by corporate assholes. Just give me good games and a good platform to play them on. Stop trying to make my gaming life into the fucking Truman Show.

PS2 had everything I wanted from a console. No extra bullshit to get between me and my games, and memory cards big enough to hold more than a handful of saved games. If only I could just plug in my X360 controller, it'd be perfect. PS controllers are so small that they slip right through my fingers...

Financially I'm at a place where I couldn't afford a new console even if I wanted to, so I'm kind of glad that none of the next gen offerings have no appeal to me whatsoever. Saves me quite a bit of headache.
