What do you want?

What do you want from a RP? What do you all want? You linger around here and make make character sheets to join RPs but then stop posting? What is it you want most out of a RP? I can't figure it out. I have RPed and GMed my heart out the whole time I have been here and every RP I do dies. It dies because people stop posting.

I don't know if they stop because they are lazy, have a short attention span, or just don't fucking care, but I want to know. I'm sick of putting a lot of work into a RP (Hosting or Playing) just for players to stop posting after a week or two.

See that's what I have noticed. Everyone posts way to much the first week or two, but after that they stop. They just stop. They lose interest, which leads me to believe that it seems most people have a short attention span.

I could rant on and on about how angry I am about the RPing situation but I'll cut myself short. What I want to know is what matters the most to you in a RP. What do you want to happen to keep you interested and posting for more than two weeks. What can I and ever other person who wants to GM to do keep you interested.

I meant what do you want to be done in a RP. What do you want to be in it to keep you participating longer. Not what RP setting and story you want to play in...

Like I've said before, some people do have short attention spans. I know what kind of RP'ers most people in here are, so I know which ones to choose for an RP. As for interest, the most important thing is to keep the story interesting. Plan it carefully all the way to the actual end of it, but keep it dynamic. Hosting is an art. One that is tough to master. But to keep your participants interested, you have to keep the RP interesting all the time.

Small fluctuations can be overcome, but it will take more effort for the GM. If you get stuck in a situation and notice that no one is interested anymore, do something completely revolutionising. You have to act fast. This probably won't happen if the plot is carefully planned and remains constantly interesting though. Now, there is also the issue of genres. Fantasy RP's are the most popular and last the best because they are the most free ones. It enables for both the GM and the players to keep it interesting all the time, if you have a good story and an interesting world.

Work on your part summons work on their part, but for them to be as interested in it as you are, you need to plan it well. Not just plan ahead, but plan so you can keep it constantly interesting.

As for me, I like structure in a RP. If the RP loses that, it will easily become unfair in many ways. Second comes freedom, which is pivotal to many RP'ers. It's hard to incorporate both of these, but what is even harder is to keep an interesting plot. One factor that remains very important for many RP'ers is a world that allows for them to create characters that are interesting for them to RP. If it's not fun to RP your character, you will not be RP'ing for long.

Hey I worked and put my heart into Walking Dead. That didn't seem to do shit did it? And I kept it interesting. I killed two players, I had you discover a scientist who had research notes. Hmmm I wonder what could have been in those? I had a whole story played out. It's not my fault people wouldn't post that they shot a fucking zombie. Why was I recruiting players? For the next chapter where the main group would be moving from the apartment to a new location with fresh blood. I had Walking Dead planned. I threw twists and turns in when things seemed dull.

What would you rather me have done? Make it a trenchcoating shit hole? Just poof us out of the apartment?

You're now talking about a specific RP, which is a wholly different topic and not what the thread is about. WD was interesting for me, you and two others you know of. One of them was slightly inactive due to other reasons. We were dedicated and had characters that we enjoyed RP'ing. I can not speak for others, but like I've said before, it got too slow for them, and thus many lost interest. Uninteresting characters might also be a factor in this, and that rests mostly on them. Part of it is affected by the world you put forth, and that could have been more detailed, but it ultimately rests on them. Another factor for WD was naturally the RP'ers in it. Those must be chosen carefully if the RP matters to you.
More WD talk may be conducted in other manners, as it is a specific case.

Well, since it got swamped beneath a few pages of forum games rather than RP's, it's understandable. I didn't know you were recruiting again until I cleaned out my bookmarked threads last night.

And Damnation will not die. You've got me with a character I enjoy.

You should have seen how hard I fought for Tsurugi's SC RP to survive. I feel that connection to Damnation too. It shall not die as long as two or three others want to play with me.

You know what I want? Structure, rules, direction. It's getting increasingly difficult to play in a game with no idea what I'm supposed to be doing. Every obstacle is handled by what I feel my character can accomplish. I need rules, dice rolls (yes, there are ways to track them whilst playing a game on this site), some sort of structure damnit!
It's hard to do anything when without a set of rules and a vague surrounding and just being told to "do it".
That help?
Hey I just want to fucking know what can be done to keep every RP from dieing after a week or two

Maybe a how to? I'm relatively new to the forums and never realized there were RP games being played. I think it's a really neat idea, but I never get involved because I'm not entirely sure how to do it. Maybe a quick post about how to play, what's expected of you, etc. Just an idea...if one exists, please point me in that direction.
