I did it at a low level with a hunting rifle and a shitload of nades ... First i stealth shot the legs and kept aiming for that 1 limb until it was crippled .... then i led it on a futile chase across the wastelands while constantly shooting/blowing it up ... eventually it caved.

Bah, all you need is distance and a low spread rifle, preferably scoped, to snipe with. Start with a nice long distance sneak attack to the head and keep pegging away until it drops. You can drop Deathclaws at least as early as level 11 (earliest I've done it in NV). Just get Boone and ED-E tell em to wait then start shooting to drag the thing into their range. That setup plus a cowboy repeater (guns skill needs to be over 40, preferably 60+) with the fire speed mod (even better if you have some hand load rounds for it) is all I needed to clear the quarry out. Best thing you can do is stay up on cliffs and make them run to you. All you need to remember is that deathclaws cannot hurt you if they can't get into melee range.

At higher levels (15+) with a sniper rifle (or gobi/anti-materiel) they pose little to no threat, even less so if you have a good sneak and the better criticals perk or even just some .308 AP rounds. Hell you can take one out pretty well with an Assault Carbine (or any other gun that loads 5mm ammo) with some AP rounds. That -25 DT tears deathclaws up real quick. Oh and if you really wanna drop them fast (or anything else for that matter) just take a dose of psycho and go to town.

If you have it on PC find a mod gun called "Beware of Girl - Finger of God".

It's a pimped out Anti Material Rifle, kills a deathclaw with 1 shot.

No good if you want a "challenge" but a great giggle if you like watching jaw bones fly across your monitor.

If you're on a console then wait a few levels, toddle over to the Gun Runners, grab a normal Anti Material Rifle, hop back to Quarry Junction and shoot away.

Or you could always grab a Fat Man and level the lot of them.

That's a tricky one. First off, don't come back until you're a MUCH higher level. I remember I was around level 20 when I first took down the Deathclaws in Sloan, and even then I had a follower with me. I was wearing Power Armor and wielding the Gauss Rifle, and I still had trouble taking down all of them. You've got a tough fight on your hands.

Am i the only one who doesn't have any issues with fallout in any iteration? death claws bow before me with a simple 10mm pistol and 100 small guns. however i ussually drop them with a plasma rifle in vats within 4 shots. high luck always give you a critical within those peremeters. i remember a playthrough of fallout 3 i went into old olney (i highly deathclaw owned area) and dropped them at level 3 with a sniper and tons of ammo.

just place your shots and cripple em with mines if your scared. isn't to hard.

Use a guass rifle or the YCS/186 [http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/YCS/186]. Stay at range as long as you can. Go for leg or head shots. If they get close, having the Knock Knock [http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Knock-Knock] is quite handy, if you've done that quest.

I've played on hard right after i beat my first play through on normal. I'm not trying to sound cocky, but the fallout series is amazing, but certainly not difficult. i've played 1,2,3,nv and tactics and they really aren't that difficult. So long as you drop your first person shooter notes and start taking new ones for fallout (atleast in 3 and new vegas whereas 1,2 and tactics have nothing to do with first person shooters)

I challenge all of you to learn the game very well, put a gag in your skills, whip them hard and make em your ***** and you'll realize how dreadfully easy the game is even on higher difficultys. difficulty changes health and damage ratios, but if you have good skill and knowledge of the game then it will only make you take longer to kill things. simple as that.

Well, Fallout 1 and 2 Deathclaws were much tougher IMO, the Fallout 3 deathclaws are... ok scary but not the same kind of scary like its predecessors.

If your skill is in guns, get the riot shotgun (the one with rapid fire) it blows them to bits.
Or the Anti-Material rifle. Or a bigger gun like the Minigun or its unique variant the avenger or something.

If your skill is in Energy weapons, use a plasma caster, Laser RCW, Gauss Rifle, Gatling laser (though I've yet to see a Gatling Laser in New Vegas I only assume they're in this one too).

If you're an explosives expert, you have a really easy time. Build bottlecap mines, use frag mines, or any other explosive you can place and backpedal while placing them. At the very least, their legs will be crippled. You'll need quite a few, so if you're an explosive user, collect Lunchboxes, cherry bombs, and obviously bottlecaps anytime you see them.

If you have unarmed or melee skill, you need to focus on Endurance, strong armour and medicine.

But level up first, you can't take Deathclaws on at level 2.
You can outfight anything that shoots at you like a regular shooter, but you can't do it for fast creatures that use melee.

My character is energy weapons/explosives focused, with low endurance. So if you're in a similar situation to me, use a follower like Lily or Veronica to tank damage for you.

Good luck.

I play Very Hard,Hardcore and modless, even with my endurance so crap I can still fight big baddies like Deathclaws, you just have to be really careful.

I was mere lad of level 2. walked into sloan just skipped the conversation with the guy ( didn't want to hear it) walked down to the mine turned around some massive werewolf like bat creature is running up to me. I fired my only grenade at it, then took my laser rifle a 4-5 shots on V.A.T.S then when it got into range i used my cowboy repeater but it was less use then the laser rifle. It reached me and took one swipe knocking out 4 fifths of m health, then took another knocking my head off.

And that was my first encounter with a Death Claw. havent gone back to sloan since.... I want to go back to explore it Escapist. How do i go about it?
I've only played Fallout 3 but what I did was stack up on mines like crazy, any mines aside from Pulse Mines (they're only deactivate robots and do little damage otherwise) bottle cap mines are great and amazing, especially if you have little else, but basiclly keep running backwards and dropping mines, this cripples their legs leaving you to kill them with your gun.

An anti-material rifle also helps.
Anti Material rifle.

Stand very, very far away. Crouch to enter sneak mode, fire the rifle at the Deathclaws head and take it down with the sneak attack critical.

Hunting shotty, Riot Shotty(need shotgun surgeon perk), Multiplas rifle, Tribeam laser rifle, sneak attack w/ throwing spear, Mercy, Annabelle, Chainsaw, and the Ballistic fist (Saturnite fist super-heated if you have OWB DLC), are all excellent weapons to kill DCs with if you meet the skill/strength requirements to use the weapon at it's full power.

For "Guns" users use the Anti-Materiel Rifle.

For "Energy weapons" players, The YCS/180 is a GOD.

At level 15-20, a single shot from either of these will kill a regular Deathclaw. You can't get the YCS if you get wild wasteland but the Alien Blaster is better than the other two!

EDIT: The sneak- attack is CRITICAL. After the OWB update, shit got harder. I realized this when I got attacked by legion assassins at level 8. There 2 centurions( or whatever the ones with the piece of power armor are called.) THEY HAD SUPER SLEDGES. At level fucking eight.
