Music does a lot of things. It makes people cry, makes them nostalgic, makes them thoughtful, heppy, sad, remorseful and a load of other things, sometimes all at once. Some people enjoy writing music, some enjoy playing music, some enjoy just listening. My question is what does music do for you, what about music is it, and what song, what music related action does it? You can talk about music as a whole or use a specific example.

As an example, I personally just love listening to music. It makes me think, and some of my favourite songs bring out all kinds of emotions in me. Right now I'm listening to "Wake the Sun" by The Matches, and I always feel happier after listening to it.

So Escapists, what does music do for you?

Very few artists actually make me feel anything. Mostly, I just listen to music to pass the time.

Depends. It makes me a lot of things. Could be interested, could be sad, could be bored.

Hmm....

Crossfade can be used as escapism for me (har har), Epyllion and Smash Mouth can be used as mood-raisers, alot of stuff (mostly instrumental) makes good background music... I'm too tired to think of more.

Different songs make me feel different emotions. I have specific songs to pump me up (Imperativa - Immediate Music), cool me off (Mad World - Gary Jules), zone me out (Absurd - Fluke), brighten my day (Ice Cream Paintjob (Gold Saucer) - Team Teamwork), or just straight up make me headbang (If You Want Peace, Prepare For War - Children of Bodom).

Music rules.

Music does just about everything for me the sheer volumes of emotion I feel. There are songs that themselves actually make me cry. There are songs that fill me with rage. There are songs that cheer me up within hearing the first notes.Music holds so much for me especially memories.

Listening to music is usually a way to tune out everything else, especially the most stressful things, even if I am not really listening to the music too much.

Making music, for me this being harmonica, is a way to relax.

Depends on what I'm listening to at the time. Some of my music reflects my feelings and so I like to play them depending on what I'm feeling (I feel angry I play angry music, I feel dark I play dark music, I feel crazy I play crazy music). Some I like to play so that I will begin to feel a specific emotion or feeling (like if I want to feel better or more pumped up). Or I'll play my music to complement my day-dreams (or day-dream to complement the music). And some I listen to because they make me laugh or entertains me. Sometimes I just like to listen to music regardless of emotions because I like the melody or rythme. I'll even just play the music in the background while I'm doing something else.

Music can do alot and I really enjoy it no matter what I'm using it for. Don't know what I'd do without having my music for a while.

It definitely cheers me up, and also actually keeps me focused when doing boring stuff like math or raking leaves. Hell, I actually have fun doing math when I listen to music.
