Now why is that? In all seriousness that just doesn't make much sense to only use the first letter from the 1st and 2nd word but 3 letters from the 3rd word. Though that would be pretty funny to hear over a communications link "Send in the SOC we are a go."
I'm going to go out on a limb and say the SOCOM sounds a lot better than SOC.
You mean, you wouldnt wanna play SOC?
I would play SOC if it was a good game.

In fact, SOCOM stands for SOuthern COMmand, and the video game takes the already militarized term and puts a different meaning. Ive asked Vets this and the answer is always Southern Command.
US Southern Command is abbreviated USSOUTHCOM.

that's how military types deal with anagrams. They don't give a duck's shit what the words actually mean..

The UH-2 Iroquois Helicopter was affectionately referred to as the Huey 2. Did it make grammatical sense? Nope, not particularly, but it sounds better on the radio then the UH-2 Iroquois. Mass Effect did a similar thing with their Spectres.. Stands for SPECial Tactics and REconnaissance.
