I don't understand why everyone has to choose a side in the current generation of gaming. Sure, you had to back when it was only Nintendo and Sega, but they had mascots. Everyone had to choose Mario, or Sonic. But these days, the only company that has a clear mascot, is Nintendo. There really is no reason to go crazy over one system.
All systems are good for something. Nintendo is for people who are just getting into gaming and for parties. You know, like most of the families that have children? There isn't much of a challenge, and they can still have fun at the same time.
Sony is certainly the black sheep this generation, just like it was last time. And the time before that. The PS3 is a more, well rounded system than the 360 and Wii. It has a good mix of everything: Platformers, First Person Shooters, RPG's, you name it. The one thing it doesn't succeed in is casual games, that's where Nintendo shines.
The 360 is pretty obvious at first glance. Mostly shooters, and gives a home to all of the 12year olds who have mouths worse than a sewer tunnel. But in further investigation, it has it's share of games with complex storylines, Bioshock for example. While there are great and interesting games that aren't just trying to rip-off Halo 3, most of them are over shadowed by said rip-offs.
All in all, the Wii is good for people either just getting into gaming, or for parents who want to get their kids to shut up for a few hours. The PS3 is for people who want a little bit of everything, whether it be RPG's, Shooters, or Platformers. The 360 is basically an orange. Rough and bitter on the outside, but sweet and delicious on the inside. It doesn't matter which you choose.
Also, I didn't mention what the Downloads were like, mainly because they're short. Mainly puzzle and short platformers.
