The game designers? I don't understand. Also, I'm not downloading/uploading anything, just listening to my current music and I only have The Escapist, my own folder, and sometimes facebook open.
I'm pretty sure it's already been stated a hundred times that isn't going to cause lag. PS: He meant that the game has lag issues and always will.

You're brother sucks at MW2. (Get up right now and tell him. If he's asleep wake him up.)

Edit: Oh and generic "if you aren't downloading or uploading blah blah blah" message.

Modern Warfare 2 has, from a technical standpoint, a horrendous method of handling multiplayer. Due to sloppy coding and bad design choices, the game handles data-packages so inefficiently that the bottle-neck so to speak is no longer within the bandwidth of the internet connection, or the machine itself (which can usually brute-force itself way trough small mistakes and sloppiness in coding with superior hardware) but rather within the program.

This means, that even if you had several Xboxs worth of computing power and double your current bandwidth, the game would still lag. Because the problem is within the poorly designed software.

Whatever you are doing, as long as you are not actively using the internet connection on your end for anything more than standard web-surfing, is not the reason. If your brother keeps whining, tell him that his so-called 'people who know what they are talking about' are just ignorant noobs pretending to be something they aren't.

Not on a 360 game. Now if you were playing it on your PC and had iTunes running in the background it would lag the game because the processor can hardly take that much. It all has to do with internet access on a 360 game.

Unless you are downloading something,no. It seems that your bro just sucks at MW2 and blames lag for it.
BWAHAHAHA!!! Absolute gold!
Had the same problem with my brother.
Playing MW2 on Live and got killed, in this order, within about 10 seconds of each other, in the open:
Rocket, sniper, sniper, sniper, gunship, gunship, grenade and rocket.
Instantly called out LAG!!!
Mind you, he's 19 and doesn't play games all that often, so for him to call out lag seems a bit preposterous to me. I tried to explain that he sucks at MW2, but he then clambered over the edge of the seat to belt me one, and said 'If you weren't lagging, you would've seen that coming.'

Yes, I know this has been said multiple times in this one thread but unless you are downloading or uploading it shouldn't cause lag.

online lag is caused by using bandwidth. Your ISP allots a certain amount of bandwidth to your modem, and if you are using your bandwidth to download something, other things which use the bandwidth (as well as your own downloading) will suffer.

Program lag is generally caused by filling up your system's memory with too much junk. This can generally be fixed by restarting your system, but if you're anything like my aunt, you have a bunch of spyware on your system that will immediately sap all of your ram once you restart.. fix that with a program like ad-aware or a full reformat.

He should've said that from the beginning because that's the truth. You've obviously never played an ijji game / participated in their forums.

i doubt itunes can cause lag and i think you should unplug the xbox and make your brother go outside

but (in a much more stupid and unproductive tone)lag is caused when garden gnomes and midget wizards are having more of their epic battles to decided the fate of middle earth...or bad internet connections

Lag is what happens when the gods of gaming decide to be cruel and rape your server. The offspring of said rape is little lag spasms in an otherwise lagless match.

Alright, first time with this, so if this goes somewhere else, just tell me!

I have iTunes up for music while I work on things, and my brother whines that it 'lags up his game' even when I'm not really doing anything. He plays Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Online multiplayer mainly, and tells me that 'people like ijji say that having iTunes up causes lag, and they know what they are talking about'. So I decided to find out. DOES iTunes cause lag on a 360 game of online COD: Modern Warfare 2?
If you are downloading songs then it may cause lag, but seeing that the game is modern warfare 2, it will lag horrifically anyway due to technical reasons thanks to the game developers and this lag is completely unavoidable whether you are on itunes or not.
The game designers? I don't understand. Also, I'm not downloading/uploading anything, just listening to my current music and I only have The Escapist, my own folder, and sometimes facebook open.
Well then the lag is nothing to do with you being on itunes. The lag is due to the games being hosted on another persons xbox 360 (non dedicated serves which is inherently a bad idea), or your internet connection being generally slow.
