What exactly is a chav?

You seem to be a good go-to-guy on the subject. I like the chutzpah you have about the subject. Do they refer to themselves as such or is it a derogatory name given to them? If it is derogatory, have they tried to "take it back"? What would happen it you saw one and referred to him/her as a chav or apparently a chavette?SenseOfTumour said:

I'd suggest that while they'd use 'chav', you using the word would be enough of a reason for them to start building up to attacking you, but then, breathing seems to be enough to incite violence from some of them. It's a bit like the N word, they can use it, but they don't don't want you to. (That's the only way it's like that tho)PeePantz said:
I'd put 'chav' like this, you can be working class, unemployed, poor and live on a council estate, and not be chav, however if you're proud of achieving nothing, of being anti social and violent, and consider a career or any form education as 'gay', then you're a chav.
They tend to actually take pride in being useless to society and actually a drain due to their behaviour, their vandalism, and their very aura sucking the life and hope out of an area.
They also constantly wear sports gear while living on junk food, and only running if a policeman comes at them.
On top of that, they've taken to wearing a baseball cap, then pulling their hood up over the top of it, because, despite there being nothing of value in their skull, they think they need two hats. I've actually seen one with two baseball caps on, two peaks sticking out the front of their hood.
Sad thing about Devvo, is that, like Al Murray the Pub Landlord and Alf Garnett before him, he seems to be gaining popularity in the group that he's actively mocking. He's taking the piss and they think he's celebrating their actions, as opposed to demonstrating what twats they are.
