What game am I talking about?

Back when I was around 10 years old, and just getting into gaming, I was visiting my aunt's house and I saw that she had a Playstation 2.

I asked her if she could show me some of her games, and she did. One of the games she showed me was a turn-based RPG where the main character could use a 'fist on a spring' like device in his attacks.

I was young so the title of the game didn't stick in my mind. And now I want to know more about this game, because it was what indirectly pushed me to liking the entire RPG genre.

The reason I can't just google it or something is simply a lack of solid memories. Any possible suggestions would be much appreciated.

Ps: Also, because the title was played on the PS2 it could be either a PS1 or PS2 game, I wouldn't know.

::shrugs:: ANY bit of information would be helpful. male, female, robots, a park, in space.. anything. Wait a minute are you talking about Wild Arms?

I was thinking Wild Arms as well. But the only fist on spring I can remember from the series is Kanon in 2, and isn't the second game for the PS1?

Evolution, but that was a Dreamcast game, iirc.

Might be Wild Arms, I played all of them but 4 and 5. But don't recall that.

There were 5 of them? Good lord. There was a stretch of about 5 years where I didn't really play any console games. I only ever played the first one.
7, actually. Wild Arms 1-5, Alter Code F (a remake of one, but its very different), and XF (pronounced Crossfire) a tactics game for the PSP.

Six if you include the remake of one (I forgot about Rudy's story). Four is entirely skippable because they divert too far away from the series for it to be considered a 'Wild Arms' game. I'm playing five now, which comes with an art book of all the games. Five keeps the lame 'hexigon' fight system that four made up, but at least they return the game story to its roots. I hated the beginning, all about amnesia and an over-enthusiastic boy, but once the story develops it becomes more interesting. That and puzzle boxes; how I love them.

edit - Onyx got to it before me. I didn't know about the seventh game.

Whilst this thread is still in service, may I ask about one?

It's a PC FPS, I saw it 8-12 years ago. The story was something along the lines of:

Deadly, computer destroying virus infects your computer.
You play as your antivirus, you go around shooting and killing bits of this virus.
One of the big points about the game is that it goes through your hard-drive, so if you enter your My Music folder, you'll hear random snips of your audio. Likewise, the textures for the walls are your pictures.
The aim was to kill the virus before it made it into your PS/2 ports, leaving you unable to control the antivirus (or straight into the hard-drive).

The cover for the game was a rusty-metal type surface, with a "Biohazard" symbol on the front (possibly with a skull/crossed bones on top).

Anyone?

The series is great, and is the second most underrated series of RPGs. Grandia has slot 1.

XF is a little different than the usual Tactical RPG, but it looks decent, I'll buy it when the price drops in my area. Until then, I really don't use my PSP. Wild Arms 2 is my favorite, except for the really annoying Millennium Puzzles.

Only Grandia 1 and 2 were good. I hated three. Why would you go through a dungeon, barely making it out by the skin of your teeth, to come across a very cool-looking monster that could be an awesome major end boss only to have it look at you and go, "You have to believe in love. Bye now."

I liked the first three WildArms games about the same. Two would have been my all time favorite if it wasn't so agonizingly long. Kanon rocks my mind. Five is mediocre compared to the first three, but it still has charm.

(minor edit to fix typos.)

First thing I thought of was Drachma (the crusty sea captain) from Skies of Arcadia, but yeah, the more I think about it, the more that sounds like Wild Arms.

Actual Grandia 3 or did you mean Grandia Xtreme?

I think it was the actual Grandia 3. Where the main character wanted to be a pilot and met an elf named Elfina. Sorry, Alfina.

Hmm... The closest thing I can think of that I've played is Operation: Inner Space, but I don't think it's the one you're thinking of... I might have heard of this once, though. I'll post again if I find out anything.

EDIT: This?

That's Grandia 3, then. I thought it had a terrible plot, but it fine-tuned the battles to perfection.
