What game makes you nostalgic?

So many playthroughs of that game done. I could still pick it up today and probably get into it again.

My answer to this will probably always be Chrono Trigger. It was the first time in my life that I realized the profound effects that games could have on me emotionally, and I was a dyed in the wool gamer after that (despite having grown up with and enjoying SMB 1-3 like everyone else).

If I hear about it (just like I made myself hear about it), I'll fire it up again for any unknown amount of time. I've probably beaten it upwards of 2 dozen times as well.

Also, it is incredible how much it not only holds up, but is still unemulated in respects. Most modern JRPG battle systems continue to ignore the advancements that game made (including Blue Dragon, inexplicably). Also, very few time travel stories in any media fail to tell such a story so well, mainly by refusing to keep things simple and end up making a lot of things convoluted. An amazing gem, I have no issue recommending that anyone play it today, even if they've not enjoyed the Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest series.

Chrono Trigger had the same effect on me. It was my first favourite game. Sure before that if someone asked what my favourite game was I'd probably have shrugged and said Super Mario Bros. 3 or Super Mario World. After Chrono Trigger, though, I never shrugged or hesitated in answering that question. It remained my favourite game right up until Resident Evil 4 stole my heart.

It just takes me back. I remember my friends also had it and we would get together to play Power Stone. Fun times

Most of the Cinemaware lineup. There were some pretty mediocre mini-games in many of them, but they were at such pains to be visual and auditory spectacles, stretching the limits of computer hardware to capture the spirit of the movies they were emulating. (They were also some of the first mainstream games to imply that (gasp!) their characters might actually have sex lives, which certainly didn't disinterest me in my adolescence.)

I just gave in and gave a little money to the Rocket Ranger Reloaded Kickstarter for much this reason... The music alone evokes swashbuckling derring-do so effectively that I can't help but hope it meets its goals.

Mostly because I used to play it with friends. I love that jeep and find the music in this game far more amusing than I should. At the risk of sounding like psychopath the sound effect when you run people over is also really funny.

The Half Life multi-player. Haven't played it in a long while but remember having fun throwing what looks like alien prairie dogs at people (shitty weapon but funny), beating people to death with crowbars and spray painting their corpse, setting of missile strikes and laughing at everyone caught outside, using the quantum gun to jump and my dad accidentally adding a whole bunch of nude skins in a mod with other skins and freaking out.


Also the BG series. Then I boot it up and recall how fucking terrible the start is. Still a great game.

The gamecube is probably my greatest source of nostalgic memories. Got it bundled with the LoZ Collector's Edition(which introduced me Majora's Mask), then Metroid Prime 1&2, Time Splitters, and other games.

On the PC, I still love the hell out of Baldur's Gate, Age of Empires and Age of Mythology. Those were probably the most played games of my childhood.

Every handheld Kingdom Hearts game (Especially Chain of Memories for the GBA)There's something about taking the Keyblade on the go that makes me all nostalgic inside... especially since Chain of Memories was my first Kingdom Hearts game...

Rayman 3It's not the first Rayman game I've played, but it was the first one I beaten to full completion... *sighs* Good times...

Game and Watch Gallery 4Mario vs Donkey Kong in a haunted mansion... Mario and Luigi packing pastries with Bowser... Shit got intense to the point of nostalgia...

Jak 2Needed a GTA replacement... This was the game that had to do it for me before The Simpsons Hit & Run took cared of that... At least it introduced me to a trilogy in the making, basically...

The Simpsons Hit & RunMy one, true GTA-based nostalgia... Also, them seasonal references as well as them cheat codes...

Metroid Prime/PortalBasically, both games made me rethink my stance on First-Person-based games...

RezCame for the shooting... Stayed for the soundtrack... Nostalgia for all of the above, which all lead to Child of Eden...

Pokemon (In general)Dabbed in the first two generations, played through the third, skipped the fourth (due to lack of a DS at the time), played through the fifth and sixth, and REALLY wants another Pokemon Pinball game right about now...
