everyone knows what "the zone" is.
you dont blink. you murder everyone. youre in the flow of block dodge attack. then you check your kill/death, lose the zone, and drop to the bottom :( c'est la vie...
but anyway, wat game/mode/time do you reach the zone? it can be online, single or local player. for me, the zone is drakengard 2, combo dodge flip smash combo - everything within 5 metres is dead, and theyre still coming!
(i checked if this has been done before, sorry if it has)

WoW, my brother. Nothing beats an ass-clenghingly awesome streak of kills in a battleground. Fending off foe after foe, knowing he was so cock sure with his head full of eyeballs, but is now a pool of gore at your feet. You're on 20% health, still simply out-skilling every fool you come across.

Then you stealth, open up the score list, and some other rogue comes from nowhere and you're not fast enough closing the window to stop the beatdown. Nobody hates rogues more than other rogues.

Anything with a gun. Its weird before i go into this mode I'm normally really pissed off but then I just calm down and the next thing people start dying...

God of War: Chains of Olympus on PSP on the harder difficulties. I always seem to get into the zone easier with handhelds for some reason. Usually it just takes about an hour of looking at the screen before my brain switches to 'awesome-machine' mode

WoW.
A hard boss in a raid.
A few beers, time slows down, i click my abilities on time, always one step ahead, all buffs are up.
Everything flows naturally, in complete control.

And I feel like a tanking GOD!!

Gimme a survival mode in a fighting game, and I'll eventually hit that point where I'm living through fights that, by all means, I should've been clobbered in. It's a thing of beauty, I've been told.

Twenty minutes after starting any game. When no one's bothering me I'm doing everything near perfect. Them someone drags me back into real life and I become avarage again.

Ninja Gaiden 2, on the long stairs in the underworld when you get flooded by enemy ninjas, it's beautiful, the games slows down without lagging or jittering and I unleash pure pwnage with the scythe.

The first twenty or so minutes of TF2, before I start getting worked up and lose my zen sniping skill. After that I start missing well over half my shots, and switch to medic.

Words of wisdom.

I am in my zone as pyro on a payload map in Team Fortress 2 and that can carry on indefinitely. Either that or a demoman on 2fort. That can also go on indefinitely. It takes a while, but after I am in 'The Zone', I am in there all day.

Unreal Tournament 2004, instagib deathmatch or capture the flag. It's so beautiful sometimes. Can anyone say LUDICROUS KILL, LUDI-LUDI-LUDICRO-LU-LU-LU...?

A ludicrous kill is when you have killed seven people in a row, if you kill somebody again, the announcer says it again, and again.. and again... Beautiful. :)

Any Devil May Cry game in Dante Must Die mode.. After 20 mins of horrible death I hit that natural, thoughtless, perfect flow of smash&dodge (and style dancing in DMC4 with Dante). This goes for most "Hack&Slash" action games.. I usually stay there till some damn boss comes around and breaks my flow.

Sometimes I hit "The Zone" in the helicopter in BF Bad Company.I have had whole rounds of swooping about rocketing tanks, turrets, and infantrymen. Some days I just seem untouchable, and keep the same chopper for a whole game, without dying once.
Other days nothing works, I make no kills and get shot down inside a minute. Luckily these are in the minority now. As was said; c'est la vie...

Team Fortress 2.
Heavy with a good Medic and Pyro helping out.
Every now and then, when the ping is good and the team is clicking, you crush enemies like crisps under bison

Edit: Also, once every blue moon, at a COD4 Lan party when i'm getting owned severely, I whip out the pistol and inexplicably dominate a round or two

The "zone" is when I'm unburdened and well-rested, as well as being generally lucky, and thus become unstoppable in fighting games. SSBB, Tekken 5:DR, Guilty Gear XX, and Soul Calibur 2 are the primary loci, with Ike, Armor King, Axl Low, and Raphael being the primary foci.

Also, under the same conditions and a shot of caffeine, I play Defenders of any type in City of Heroes to their fullest extent. It's a good day when my Empath keeps everyone safe and still has time to Psychic Blast some gangster punk-ass bitches.

I completely get in the zone when playing street fighter against someone I know.
It?s different than fighting a computer-controlled enemy. My M. Bison crushes their
Spirits and breaks their skill, hopes, and confidence with my psycho power. Occasionally,
I fight them as Dan! And you know what? I still win. He?s one of my mains. My friends start to scream when I go for an ultra, and I laugh evilly when they miss attacks. I?m kind of a douche, but I will be until someone defeats me. Which never happens.

If 'the zone' is what I think it is, I don't believe it's capable of being triggered with a complex game, however I can see it in SF,TF2, etc and most of the above.

However, my true 'zone' games would be Smash TV and LLamaTron, Jeff Minter's furry take on Robotron, you , one gun, and hundreds of enemies and nothing fancy to get in the way of the laser death. I find I dont notice I'm in the zone until I fall back out, but by then I've cleared 20 levels on one life and now I'm suddenly losing em all on the next one.

I also believe the Zone lasts about 10-30 mins.

Probably Call of Duty 4, when I get a good sniper streak. Surprisingly, though, I tend not to lose 'The Zone' while looking at the score-board (Usually, it only keeps me going stronger), but as soon as the map changes, I collapse into a pile of suck and just wind up barely making a 1-1 Kill-Death ratio, if even that.
