What Game Took You the Longest to Finish?

Title.
I just finished AC: Brotherhood...about 5 days ago and 100% rebuilt Roma. However, when I finished it, it reminded me about how much longer it took me to finish the game's prequel- AC II. Like a week longer. Saint's Row 2 also took up my entire spring break and it took me about the same amount of time to beat AC IV: Black Flag. So what game(s) took you the longest to finish to your satisfaction?

It'd be interesting to know just how much time it took you to beat that game though :p
On a continuous playthrough, I must've dragged Dragon Quest VIII for about 6 months. But technically speaking years have gone by before I picked up some old title of mine, resumed a save file and finally beat the game. I got stuck near the end of GTA III (the fucking Colombian coffee stands mission) and it took 3 years before I picked it up and beat it.

Didnt we have this thread a while ago? not that it matters I suppose anyway Mario the lost levels is mine easily it took me 18 years to finish I was kinda glad I did though and I think 17 of those years were on the last level it was just to hard for me as a kid. As for technical hours to finish a game I have no idea which one took me the longest.

I've only beating Contra III ONCE.

Since then?
I've probably got 10s of hours into game, with no winning insight.

In terms of days used to play it, Final Fantasy IX took me about weeks to beat the first time.

In terms of actual hours played, FFIX took about 40, whereas Persona 3 took me a little north of 100 before I saw the credits. That was without beating The Answer, too!

I had Final Fantasy USA: Mystic Quest when I was a kid but couldn't figure out how to get past the ice temple. A few years ago, I got a new (to me) copy from a local games retailer and finally figured out where I went wrong. I beat the game in a matter of hours (possibly a weekend) but I still consider myself to have beaten it after years-upon-years, something like a decade or more. When I get around to beating Final Fantasy Adventure on the Game Boy that will take the new crown for "longest it's taken me to beat a game" award. It was one of my first Game Boy games and I still haven't beaten it to this day twenty or so years later.

Resident Evil 4 is pretty fucking long. To go through it in one sitting will take you about 10-12 hours.

Discounting MMOs, I think it would probably be Dark Souls. Close to 80 hours first time through. Fastest playthrough was close to 7, doing all the bosses (before DLC).

Either that or one of the Persona games. Those fuckers are long.

Tales of Symphonia. 112 hours in-game time, which lasted around three months in total real time.

Real-time or play time?

I guess it doesn't affect my answer much either way. Having said that, it's between Skyrim, Fallout 3 and Xenoblade Chronicles. I'm not sure which one has the most hours sunk into it, but Xenoblade certainly felt like the longest! Each of them had more than 150 hours anyway.

I've never played it but I'd consider a 10-12 hour campaign pretty short :/

For me it's Dark Souls as well. The first playthrough was basically pushed a lot by my brother as a phantom for some bosses after i managed to ring the second bell. I started over after that ("I can do this on my own") and played until I had two lordsouls. Then the game lay around for a year until I managed to tell myself again "You can do this!" and then I did the rest in about 4 hours (around 6-7 bosses were left in total) and was like..."Why did I hesitate so long?". I was already able to beat the game skill-wise but was just sooo afraid of the frustration which happened all too often. Well, Dark Souls 2 is on the way for PC and this time I will be quicker :)

The game feels longer than 12 hours because it's very slow burning for an RE game.

Currently it's GTA IV. I never beat the campaign in that game, so I'm doing it now and HOLY FUCK END ALREADY. I had the same problem with GTA V in that it overstayed its welcome. Just end it sooner, please. RDR was like 16 or so hours for me, and that wasn't too long. Obviously I get more distracted in GTA and murder people along the way, but they should really make the campaigns shorter. Most people don't finish them anyways, so focus on more mission variety.

Wind Waker took too long for me. Almost gave up when I got to collecting the Triforce pieces. I was playing on an emulator at the time, so I skipped it, but Jeez. Something like 30 hours.
Currently replaying it though in Japanese on my Wii. Should be fun since it's a little different to the English version.

I think the longest game I played was my favorite Front Mission 3. There were two completely different campaigns 60-80 hours each. So, it's almost like a complete playthrough of both Persona 3 and 4.

Fallout: New Vegas is pretty long if you are going for 100% completion. My definition for it is all main and side quests possible (some of them are mutually exclusive), all the DLC and their respective sidequests, all the in-game challenges (well, most of them, as 2 of the 3* challenges are difficult simultaneously as they are faction-based), discovery of every location, killing every unique enemy unit (generally only applies to monsters/robot/etc. though I make an exception for the Van Graffs), all the unique armor pieces, and every fully upgraded weapon as well as all the unique counterparts. La Longue Carabine is a ***** to get if you are roleplaying an NCR friendly character. I can easily put over 100 hours into each and every playthrough, though it is probably closer to 200.

Civ 5 marathon mode as Japan. Took me a good 50ish hours to finally achieve victory. It turned into a global war with no allies and all city states dead or pupated. I was lucky, I started on my own continent sized island with no shallow coast tiles to get to me so I had hundreds of in-game turns with no opposition to my land grabbing and building. Then Venice discovered me and it all started. War started in 1576, war ended in 1998. And I did NOT start any wars, I was trying for culture victory.

It depends on how you count it.

The longest game it took me to complete in terms of days between start and finish would likely be Echo Night: Beyond. It took me around a year of picking it up, starting it, getting the piss scared out of me and putting it down for a while.

In terms of actual playtime, that would probably go to... hmmm... I'd have to say Skyrim as of now. The playthrough in which I actually completed the main story was at around the 165 hour mark, I want to say.

Ninja Gaiden 2 took me two years to complete, not because I got bored with it and put it down but simply because it was so frustratingly difficult that I repeatedly had to stop playing it to stop myself from going insane and putting a hole through my TV.

Good god I loved the hell out of it though. I still can think of no better example of how to learn patience. I played through the last section of the game in one night, all the way through from the top of the mountain to the final boss battle because I had reached a zen level of acceptance of fucking up every few minutes.

With brakes in-between/time not recorded anyway: The NES Legend of Zelda for the GBA (1 year)

Without brakes/time was recorded: Persona 3: FES (137 hours)

I don't know/100% completion: Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep (I kinda don't want to talk about this one...)
