The need to pee.

That or setting my alarm. Not my actual alarm, just setting it. If I set my alarm for 6:30am, I'll naturally wake up at about 6:10am. If I set my alarm for 9:00am then I'll wake up at about 8:40am. Fucking why?!

Getting awake isn't a problem for me, the alarm does that quite well. But how do I get motivated to get out of bed? Well, I just remember I'm awesome. And then I get up, start boxing the air with a few punches to shake off a bit of lethargy, then get dressed.

Once, I even walked out the side door, turned on a hose, and blasted my head with cold (as in just about freezing) water to get rid of my bedhead. Originally it was to wake me up further, but the cold air did that much quicker than anticipated, so really it was just about the hair by the time I turned on the hose.
I might do that again. It was fun.

I have an alarm on my phone that sounds like a fire alarm. I've actually woken up thinking there was a fire.

And if I want to catch my friends before school starts I need to be out of bed by 6:40am. On the weekends though I just stay in bed (asleep or awake) until I get really hungry or I really have to pee.

I blame simple biology for the fact that I almost always wake up fully erec...OH!

ahem...

I use my phone's alarm clock to wake me up though not necessarily in the morning. Gotta love that 3rd shift but anyway, my preferred alarm tone is the Final Fantasy theme though sometimes it'll be Voltaire (Trouble with the Tribbles)

Pornography usually gets me up in the morning.

No, but seriously, I just wake up normally ten minutes before my alarm sounds off.

Set your phone alarm to the most annoying chime you can find (Sci-Fi works well for me), put it on the other side of the room, and about 5 alarms going off in 5 minute intervals.

You'll wake up a tad pissed but it'll work.

I'd suggest getting one of those old fashioned alarm clocks with the bells and stuff. Good luck sleeping through that.

Well I have school to go to so no matter how much I want to stay in bed I can't.

What I'd like to know is how do people stay awake during school? I have eight hour days and I'd really like some advice on how to get through the days. I don't drink coffee for starters, might start though.

Insomnia.

This makes it so that when I am woken up (by soothing music) I literally cannot go back to sleep, so I might as well get up. Honestly, this is the only upside insomnia, because it means I don't have to drink coffee, have horrible alarms, have someone drag me out of bed, etc. to get where I need to be. Also, I have this strange tendency to be ready for the day in about ten minutes, so my alarm is set to about 15 minutes before I need to leave. (the five minutes is buffer time to account for the unknown)

I think alot of the problem with me is that when I hear my alarm, my first thoughts are "Oh god another WHOLE day to go through.... man I can't be arsed."
This. I like my job but I also like sleeping and my God I hate waking up so early and having to face the day ahead. All work should start at 10.30am.

As I lie in bed each morning and ask myself why I should put my feet on the floor, there are precious few reasons I have ever been able to come up with. A chance to escape Jordan's morning breath? Sure. Scotch! It's too early to drink it, yes, but people, it is never too early to think about it. And of course, the ever-present possibility that I might happen upon Hugh Jackman and finally be able to give him the present I've been holding for him. BAM!
Still, the most persuasive argument is the fact that I am able to come here, to this forum, every day, and help keep people entertained.
Beautiful, beautiful scrubs reference. Love Dr. Cox. That line was one of his best.

OT: Most days I wake up before my alarm, but I'm a morning person. If I don't, my alarm is across the room and progressively gets louder AND more frequent.

Look into this:
https://s3.amazonaws.com/luuux-original-files/bookmarklet_uploaded/sonic_boom_clock_1.jpg

It's an alarm clock with an extremely powerful Vibrating motor attached to it. I used one during school when i was working 12 hours a night and kept using it up til i got married and was worried it would scare the wife awake. The one i had shook so hard, it gave me a nosebleed a few times. Its a solid wake-up call.

Nothing fancy, just the alarm function on my phone. I don't need to put it anywhere difficult to reach; I happen to sleep in a bunk-bed, so getting my lazy ass down the ladder without killing myself to reach my phone is usually enough to wake me up.

As far as advice goes, just set an alarm. It might seem hard at first, but when you get used to it, and your body adjusts, you'll likely find yourself waking up at that time even without an alarm.

Knowing that if I can't man up to get out of bed to get on with life, I should just kill myself. And I don't want to die. It gets easier when a mate agrees to kill you if you are still in bed by 7:30. Also...lying in bed doing nothing is boring after the last eight hours.

For me, it's the knowledge that if I don't get up general lethargy will take over the parts of my personality now dominated by a combination of determination and the desire to try to live life in a more fulfilling way, also if I get called in for a shift at work I want to be awake to answer the phone and then get my ass to work to get some hours in and make some money so I may eventually shake off this load of debt, and start saving towards a new gaming computer, this netbook is kinda crap for gaming... Like, really crap, but, at least it runs a few things.

My massive morning boner.
Alternatively, my phone's alarm. Luckily for me, I have to leave for work at like, 4:30 PM, so on days with no school I can sleep in really late if I so desire.
