I just went onto what used to be encyclopedia dramatica, and it's now something called "oh internet", and just looks like knowyourmeme.com.

is this a joke, or have I really missed something here?

On April 14, 2011, Encyclopædia Dramatica was replaced by Oh Internet, which claims to have "more toned down content style and a streamlined design." Sherrod DeGrippio's reasoning was that "Shock for shock?s sake is old at this point and we're looking forward to the future and how things are evolving... when you put user experience first, the language becomes highly important and that's what we?ve done." While Oh Internet has generated interest from social networks, many visitors to Encyclopædia Dramatica were displeased by the change and attacked the website's official Facebook fan page.[7]

I'm glad the site is gone, some of it wasn't even just for shock value, some of it was outright hate, and honesty I think the less we have of that the better......

I can't really say I'm happy about this without being called a free-speech hating monster. So all I'll say is that words that rhyme with 'nude fiddles to sad mutton' are floating in my head.

It's dead, Jim.
well, there was little notification of this happening, did you know about it before?
Oh Internet took over to clean it up a bit, because ED was a little too "in your face" with the sexual/profane humor to really be funny or helpful. I believe the explanation said something along the lines of "Shock tactics for the sake of shock really doesn't really work when it's the only thing the web site does."

It was a funny site for people who don't get easily offended. The fact that it was killed off so quickly and apparently without any way to archive the content was just a dick move from the site's creator. Thank fuck there's an archive now but unfortunately not all the content is back. Oh well, hopefully with time that asshole/***** will pay and we'll get ED back.

ED was unjustly killed by VinylGirl a few days ago, without any warning nor with any attempt to save the archives.

This angered the Anon's that help write that Codex of Chan History.

ED was then butchered and maimed into a lulz free KnowYourMeme Rip off called "Oh Internet", a place where, in spite of VG's insistence that its all about "Free editing" (which it isn't) and appeasing the userbase (Which it doesn't. All Oh Internet's site traffic has been from people looking for Encyclopedia Dramatica; If people want to look at a SFW meme database they'll go to KYM. She has essentially shat on the people that gave her site a name)

But if VG thought she could simply wipe the slate clean, and hope to vanquish the monster she created from the internet, then she has clearly lost what little mind she had.

Encyclopedia Dramatica's archives can now be found here http://encyclopediadramatica.ch/Main_Page

It is still in its infancy, as it was only created mere days ago, and because of the need to dig up an archive some articles are still missing or incomplete. Rest assured this will not stay incomplete forever.

Long Live ED.
Honestly, I only went on to Encyclopedia Dramatica when I was dead tired and needed a good cheap laugh.

But after reading what you typed, I have to say that was a horrible move by VinylGirl. I mean honestly, who the hell does that to their userbase? And without any forewarning? That's just horseshit. So here's hoping everything works out for you guys.

I'll be popping in and reading the articles sometime later, probably, maybe, I dunno.

Oh thankyou god sir, you have brought light back to my life.

I guessed vinyl must have been behind it, but this feels like a bit of a betrayal, I put a lot of my own effort into it a few years back
