G4 used to appeal to people who play video games. Now they appeal to their definition of gamers which they think are giant doucheturds who masturbate too often and have the attention span of a taco. It's essentially spike TV with ninja warrior.

G4 started off as a good idea, a channel for gamers. It went through its infant stage of development where they put anything with the theme(games) on the air. I remember some review shows, some stupid gaming competition shows, and one show where the guy would write scripts that he thought were funny and act them out using MMOs of the time(pre WoW).

After that they went straight to syndication slums and showed anything and everything they could buy no matter how far away from gaming it was. That was about the time I switched off the channel for good. I heard they had interesting shows like ninja warrior but that was not enough for me to turn back on the channel. The last ditch effort IMO was Attack of the Show.
I know a lot of people like this and to be fair I have not watched an episode but to me the concept seemed to insult me. It goes like this... Gamers are hopeless nerds who can not get a date to save their lives. Lets put a hot girl on the show and say she plays games. Then they will watch thinking they have a shot with her. Again I have not watched the show so I might be wrong.

Jeeze, I forgot about G4. I haven't watched it in years. I used to watch it for the gaming news... but it really went down the drain. The only time I even watch G4 anymore is for E3.

I liked it better when it was just TechTV and not G4. TechTV had a lot of nice television shows for gamers. Cheat was awesome, Judgment Day was pretty good, and X-Play was actually funny back then. Ever since G4 took over they have moved gaming to the side and instead like showing shows that have nothing to do with gaming. I also hated how they got rid of most of the TechTV hosts. The guy who hosted Cheat was much funnier than the girl they replaced him with.

G4 is still more than alive and kicking.. the problem is, it's not still alive and kicking as a television station. If you are looking for news, reviews and (most importantly for me) intelligent discussion about games you owe it to yourself to check out G4's website. Unlike on the TV side of things, Adam Sessler is allowed to rule the G4 web presence with an iron fist and it shows. From well written reviews to intelligent vlogs, great stuff is put up there almost every day.
You are 100% right with this post. the channel has become garbage but their website is great. Sessler's Soapbox, Feedback, and their reviews are top notch.

Well the channel definitely isn't what it was like a few years ago and that probably got rid of some of their audience. As for the site I have a negative view of it a bit. The reason for that is because I used to go to G4.TV all the time before I came here and the community the entire time was just flaming. I remember I almost got banned because a mod didn't like my view of a game, can't remember the mod's name but I do know that he left to start his own site. Now I don't know if it's changed since I last went there but I don't know if I would. Now I loved Sessler's Soapbox a lot, I also liked the MMO Report too. But the community was what had me leave mainly.

G4 has gone down the tube over the past few years. I miss the days when X-Play had a sense of humor; now it's just video game news (pshaw).

I'll post two examples of there reviews.

Blood Stone 007 3/5

The review was poorly written and it made a lot of the users angry.

GoldenEye 007 4/5

They say that the cons never take away from the score, yet they barely addressed the issue with online. So much for that load of bull.Several users comments said they had no problems and the ones that did knew they had a crappy connection. Yet the review didn't say why. And most people are saying its a 5/5 but it's G4. They are bias towards the Wii.

Even Xplay sucks.

Cops and Cheaters with one episode of Xplay and one episode of AOTS is all that network is now. Code Monkeys was a great show that actually fit their demographic but it didn't appeal to housewifes in their thirties so they took it off the air. The only reason I can see for having cheaters on G4 is that they think video game nerds have never had and never will have a relationship so they show the drama so people can feel like they're a part of it. And cops because it has people with guns. Anybody remeber that rat thing from X-Playh that used to say Suck it a lot? That guy was awesome. Also the announcer guy is missing and he was hilarious. Drunk Link, Canadian Guy you shall be missed ;(

Addem Sesslers first Cohosts back when it was Gamespot was awsome and when the show became Extended Play it was really awsome but when they changed it to Xplay it was just gah they ruined everything on it

Tech TV was my fav channel I watched shows liek Screen Savers every days.

When they became Tech TV/G4 it still was alright had some intristing shows.

When G4 took over they ruined the channel and seemed to get rid of everyone.

I HATE MORGEN WEBB I stoped and refuse to watch G4 anymore or Xplay I stoped watching it years ago.

Eh, I don't really think anything is wrong with G4, but I only knew of its existence when it was G4 and not TechTV so maybe thats why. Like AOTS and X-Play, though its been a long time since I watched G4. Code Monkeys was cool too, missed that show.

Mostly I go to their Website and watch Sessler Soapbox and Feedback. Especially like Feedback, but probably not for everyone.

Though I must say, it does seem like the people enjoy their jobs, but maybe thats just me.

Good god I miss G4. True G4, not this shit.
Back before the dark times it had one of the best line ups ever.
Judgement Day
X-Play
Cheat
The Electric Playground

Now all its got is X-Play and AOTS, and X-Play now has to house Cheat as well, which use to be its own show.
G4 used to be a station for gamers, now its a poor poor really really poor man's Spike.

What ever is happening to G4 happened to Spike first. A promising new TV channel got bogged down by a stupid TV show which is hogging all of the air-time. Spike has daily power blocks of CSI which last 6+ hours. G4 has Cops and Cops: College edition. I still kinda like watching Unbeatable Banzuke and, Ninja Warrior though.

What ever happened to Code Monkeys?

I really miss The Screen Savers. Martin Sargent and also his late night show that he had when it was G4/TechTV was always entertaining as well. It's a shame to see it all go down hill. AoTS seemed to be the catalyst of the downfall. It introduced the whole "bein geeky is so kool LoL!" aspect to TV, and once the new breed of Web 2.0 kids and older people that didn't have a clue hopped on and dramatically changed the demographic the channel was aimed at. Everything shifted from Technology and gaming, and changed to cheesy entertainment and whatever hot trendy new "x" for your "y" or some new way to post useless information to the "in" social network of the time. Simple rules of economy though, I guess. You give the consumer what they want. The majority wanted Cops, Cheaters, and the new abomination of XPlay. Even Sasuke ( I refuse to call it NIIINJAAA WARRIORRR like that crap announcer does.) seems forced as well, to fill some sort of niche market that doesn't exist, or at least try to make its own; which it seems to have.
