What has Bioware got left to offer?

Quite obviously a ME3 butthurter. Mass Effect 3 was an excellent game, TOR is a good MMORPG and they still have a large portion of creativity left. And they possibly have a new Baldur's Gate and still have the Jade Empire IP.

Mass Effect - pretty much finished bar the long slow milking via DLC.

While I agree that Mass Effect 3 was disappointing plot wise, the game play was still great.

Star Wars - An fairly lack luster MMO soon to be forgotten.

Easily my all-time favorite MMO. It's not a huge leap forward for the market but it certainly sets the bar for what someone should expect to get out of an MMO prior to the endgame.

Dragon Age - Their only real IP with room to expand, though DA has always been a beta project and kind of lacks a strong sense of identity, especially in todays over-saturated WRPG market.

I agree. This is the most promising franchise to continue working on. I'd be hugely disappointed if Dragon Age 3 never became a reality.

C&C Generals: A very un-Bioware game.

Yet it's the best C&C / Red Alert game in years if not the best in the entire series.



Personally, I think the new console generation should give Bioware the excuse to try more new IP's. They can write excellent characters and create excellent combat systems. I wouldn't be opposed to them taking the Final Fantasy approach and just constantly releasing new RPG's with new settings and characters.

A third Dragon Age simply can't be profitable enough for EA to bother producing, I think they're just waiting for the right time to announce the cancellation. SW:TOR will follow WAR, AoC and Rift to the WoW-clone limbo soon enough, Mass Effect still has some milkage potential and... that's it.

The C&C game is being developed by a studio that's BioWare in name only. I wouldn't be surprised if the RPG BioWare gets the chopping block before the end of the year.

DA3 and probably more after that I don't see Dragon Age being a trilogy. And like everyone else said more non Shepard mass effect games, until there about to be shut down or all interest in the ME world disappears then they will make another game revolving around Shepard and it will be terrible.

Dragon age series - dead (because DA2 was a such a piece of crap)

SW:tor - will be dead in under a year


Bioware has utterly lost its reputation people who are still buying there games are either blind fan boys, or people who dont care about the quility of video games.

I still disagree on DA2 being crap. Its a fun game they just reused maps. Lot of games are guilty of that and no one harps on them.

They could always go and explore a new field...of completely bog standard setting. So far they ave proven decent at that. maybe next we'll see some historical fantasy (so classical fantasy without magic) or maybe why not a game where you play as an archeologist of some sort who goes around and explores ancient ruins and crypts.

The problem with Bioware is they only know how to make one game. The story and characters are the same every time. Have you played Mass Effect? Yes? Then you have played all Bioware games. They have nothing more to offer.

I know, they do. But now they are making the new C&C...which is the definition of RTS games.

But otherwise I don't see them being any more creative than they have been so far. Even if they do try something relatively new (not an RPG) they'll stick to the book.

No they can't. Lucasarts killed KOTOR 3 after hitting a rough patch between 2005 and 2007. It was canceled alongside Battlefront 3 and Rogue Squadron 4, and Bioware doesn't own the license to the IP.

IP rights are currently in the hands of Beamdog right now. Bioware made the game for Interplay, and the rights didn't go with Bioware.

What about Baldur's Gate? I don't think BioWare has the D&D license any more. And they have pretty much a replacement for that - Dragon Age.

It's been quite a while since any developer has had me so in love with them that I am always thinking about and on the look out for what's next from them. Pretty sure it's better this way too.

Edit: and to address the more negative/anti-BioWare/EA tone to the thread. There have been zero companies that I have completely written off just because they made a game that I had a strong negative reaction to. Zero.

As if game studios announce every game project that's still in its prototyping phase to the public.

ME was in development for at least 1-2 years before it was announced in Oct 2005.

TOR is KOTOR 3, like it or not, it's true.

TOR is to KOTOR what Dragon Age is to Baldur's Gate. Not the same, and with the way Lucasart's is keeping it's head up its own ass right now, I doubt we'll ever get a conclusion to KOTOR 2. I refuse to believe that the Revan novel is how things ended.
