Hey everyone, I just finished my first play through of Portal (very fun game). However there was one thing I didn't expect from it, guilt for "taking out an Enemy". What enemy would this be you ask?

The bloody turrets, I felt really, really bad every time I "Killed" one of them. This has to do with the innocent voice they have and the things they say when you kill them such as "Whyyyyyyyyyy?" and "I don't blame you".

My questions for everyone is, have you ever felt guilty killing an enemy in a game and why?

Yes. Everytime I kill a Big Daddy on BioShock, and the little sister starts crying her poor eyes out. She even called him Mr. Bubbles. The Big Daddies weren't bad people...they done nothin' to hurt nobody...they're the real victims of the game.

The time I chose to kill that guy Niko was looking for for so long, and how he started talking. I executed him after hearing his story but felt real bad afterwards. In my second playthrough (Had to get the "Completed in under 30hrs"-trophy because the first playthrough was done in 30h15mins) I spared his life.
There is also lots of other things, but I can't be bothered posting them now because I'm heading upstairs for some BACON FLAVOURED CRISPS!
EDIT: Oh, and killing some random nice guys in Fallout 3 for their loot. I felt bad the first second, laughed manically when the slow motion V.A.T.S. showed my shotgun turn their head into red mist then I felt bad again. :(

GTA 4 has trophy support?!

To the Onyxmobile!

OT: Every time I killed any civilian in Fallout 3.

The wasteland is an empty enough place...I'll never get the Bad Karma achievements because of that.

I'm getting the Bad Karma ones first because they make the game easier (more loot etc.), then I will go into Jolly Sunshine mode on my second playthrough and then Neutral.

Sometimes I feel bad when killing NPC's in GTA IV, since they lie there screaming in agony.

If I kill my enemy, it's for a damn good reason, so I've already justified it to myself.

Your profile picture says that...

Anyway, some games yes (like portal, but it was a mixture of funny and sad) other games no (like almost everyone in Mass Effect 2, they all shout at you and brag of their awesomeness right until I nuke them (M-920 Cain))

Well, I have actually let a few enemies live because I didn't want to kill them. Weird, yeah, but I'm not big on doing stuff I know I'll regret if I can find any way around it.

This.

Shadow of the Colossus. Enough said.
And this.

In Bioshock, I'd NEVER choose to harvest a Little Sister. I couldn't take it.

Also, when I had to fight Ruby Weapon in Final Fantasy VII and had to have Cloud alive only, I had to hit Tifa until she was out of HP. To this day I feel like crap about it.

I know, I have issues...

I revel in the destruction and death of my enemies! Sometimes I even like to sing a little song, and it goes something like this: Oh, I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts, here they are all sitting in a row! big ones, small ones, some as big as my head!

They weren't enemies, but...

Sniper Wolf's wolves in Metal Gear Solid 4 that appear after you fight Crying Wolf. I always like to test boundaries in games and see what the developers allow me to do and not do. So, I was curious if the wolves could die.
I -thought- I had equipped one of the tranquilizers, but I wasn't paying attention and equipped just a regular handgun (you'd think the color would catch me, but it didn't). I meant to shoot one in the shoulder (still thinking it was the tranquilizer), but it moved, and I shot it in the face.

Words cannot describe the guilt I felt. Dx

Losing my NPC allies in Halo often makes me guilty. I always take great pains to keep them alive.

Also, I occasionally feel sad when taking out Sentinels. They are just so goddamn cool.

Huh? Grunts, you say? Naw, I never felt guilty over the colossal numbers of them I killed...

Never. I am a cold-hearted killer when in game mode. I even laugh hysterically sometimes.
I laughed.

Hmmm... I don't feel guilt. For I am a SPACE MARINE!

NO REMORSE!

NO RETREAT!

NO SURRENDER!

A bit more seriously, I only feel remorse for the marines in Halo I accidentally kill. I just kill, kill and kill.

The thing I love about games like Halo is that it makes the enemies fun to kill. I never feel bad for killing a Grunt like I do when I kill a Big Daddy, which I do agree, is kind of mean (I like walking with them for a while, and just marvelling at their brute strength and caring delicacy, a beautiful juxtaposition that seems to be the theme of the Bioshock games). However, I don't feel bad about killing the turrets, because unless you throw them into a disentigration field, you can re-activate them whenever you want.

Oh, now that I think of it, I was depressed for a long time after the people I was trying to save in Fallout 3 were mauled by a Super-mutant Master. There was nothing I could do, but I should have realized something was wrong when I couldn't fast-travel.
