Elliott Page starred in a movie about that (there was another film "loosely based" on it as well), which I decided not to watch.

That went beyond bad. Fucking horrific. I almost couldn't finish it, and can't say I'm glad I did.
Yeah, I was gonna say don't go thanking anyone just yet. Listening to their account drained the life right out of me, and there was still half left to go. Apparently there's a film made about it but I got no interest in seeing that shit, hearing it once is enough to understand the horror those people perpetuated and the various problematic factors that allowed it to continue unchallenged.

In 2014, a new podcast called Serial launched and took the world by storm. The first season covered the case of Adnan Syed, a man convicted of killing his girlfriend 14 years earlier. Host Sarah Koenig interviewed a slew of people and did some investigative journalism herself which turned up a lot of interesting pieces of evidence that hinted at the idea that Syed might actually be innocent. The podcast became so immensely popular with so many people talking about it that the case was effectively reopened with the new evidence being considered.

Today, prosecutors themselves are saying Syed should be freed on his own recognizance while awaiting a new trial. Wow.

In a similar, but swapped around outcomes, the investigative podcast The Teacher's Pet led to the reopening and eventual life sentencing of the husband who's wife mysteriously disappeared off the face of the planet years back in Australia;

The podcast itself;

I learned about the huge twitter campaigning against Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. I don't like the guy either... but watching so much of this garbage being spewed all over (plus so... so much mis-information and clearly fake pictures and tweets made by the guy "totally for realsies you gotta believe us") makes me feel ashamed to be part of this country. I know that it's like this everywhere because Twitter is a cesspool. But, christ almighty...

I dunno why I expected better, honestly

And Adnan Syed has been freed after reasonable doubt consumed 23 years of his life. The power of the podcast. Sarah Koenig was in the courtroom for Syed's release. This is incredible.

British Comedian Matt Berry can sing. Not only that, he's apparently released numerous albums. I only realized this when watching "What we do in the shadows" and wondering "Is that really him singing?"

Yes, Yes he is. Possible spoilers for Season 4 of the show.

Today I learned that Harold Ramis and Bill Murray, longtime friends and collaborators, had a falling out on the set of Groundhog's Day that led to their estrangement, and the two didn't speak at all for 20 years. It wasn't until Ramis fell gravely ill that Murray went to visit him and reconcile before Ramis' death shortly after. Sad, cautionary tale.

So apparently British Army Tanks have something called a boiling vessel inside that allows them to heat up water. While this is normally to allow them to have hot food and drink out in the field, apparently it's most often used to make....you guessed it, Hot Tea.

And that is the most stereotypically British thing I can imagine. Sitting in a Tank sipping on a cup of tea.

It's how you keep things civilised.

People laughed when the Australian Army added aircon for the troop bay in their version of the LAV-25... until those same people got to try hooting about the desert in metalboxes without AC.
