What if they made a Minecraft 2?

What if once the original Minecraft has been released, and say a year or two have passed and the team at Mojang decide to make a sequel (essentially a ground up re-make but with far better graphics but the same blocky gameplay for example) what would you want in it and why? Graphics, features, whatever comes to mind but that is unlikely to be part of Minecraft 1.

I personally would want creepers that dont just make you jump when they land on you but make you scream as well, I reckon the deeper you go the scarier everything should be, beyond a certain level you simply cannot create a lot of light (without some super torch or something) so things become perhaps not riskier, but definitely terrifying. What do you think?

I want a netcode that isn't based on a single server, but rather some sort of "shared processing" where the clients' PCs manage some of the chunks.

That way, rather than a system where the server gets increasingly laggy the more players are connected, you could have infinite # of players populating a world.

Although, this could totally be hack-prone .. but it's just the basic idea.

How about we let them finish the first one... hmmm?

But I can easily see Minecraft growing into a much larger game, not a sequel though. It will just keep getting updated.

What would be the point of making a "Minecraft 2"?

If you want a different look, get a texture pack.
Want new features? There are a lot of mods out there.

Em there are already lots of mods and texture packs. It is no where near time for a new game there is nothing much he can really add at this point unless he is with holding content for a cash in.

Exactly the same in every way, but coded efficiently and maybe in C or something instead of Java. The lag I get on this game is ridiculous, my computer can barely run it.

This thread is kinda early isn't it? Mincraft 1 is still in beta. And the way the game is being developed, there's not going to be room for a sequel, really. The only big change that i would make is moving off of the java platform.

That's exactly what I was thinking. It's great in beta right now, but talk about a sequel to an unfinished game? Just a tad early I think.

No matter what, people would be calling it a glorified expansion pack because they're already constantly adding new content and making everything shinier is probably down the line in the far future. Beyond that, I want redstone circuits to not be a royal pain for things that should be practical. For example just today I was trying to make a floor out of note blocks that trigger simultaneously when I stop on a pressure plate when I walk into my house. Resources aside, that should be pretty easy. I worked for half an hour fiddling with it (it was my first experiment with in-game circuitry, and I have little experience with it IRL) with absolutely no results. Mostly because redstone torches are fickle as hell. I know for a fact that they're supposed to go dark if something is providing power to them, but they refused to do that for some reason. In general, redstone circuitry seems needlessly complex, and this is AFTER him updating it in Alpha to be simpler.

Mojang wouldnt, they would just make an update for Minecraft.

Then the two things i still want from it is a diving helmet and proper networking. One of which is known to be in pogress.

Already talking about a Minecraft 2 when the first is a beta? And has been alpha for a year before that? Fat chance. Mods and texture packs as well as updates beat sequelizing the game.

And if you're still looking to a "different" Minecraft, there's a 2D game similar to it called Terraria, except it has graphics.

The only way a sequel can be justified is if it's a new graphics engine they're using.

well a console release would be nice, maybe more equipment and generally making it a bit more complex by adding new elements.

Minecraft, at least as of right now, does not need a sequel. Better graphics? Get a texture pack. More content? Notch is releasing it. Change to core game mechanics? Maybe, but there are quite a few mods for that.
