If i had done something that justifies the salary, damn yes, my work is done. But a lot of hobbies i have or would pick up can be seen as work too.
Just because you do something you like its not unproductive. I could happily dedicate my workfree life to acting in theatre plays i would organize, i would do more for the festival i am volunteer for for years now, i would pick up drawing again, i would spend more time with my GF and friends, i would study everything that just interests me without caring if its "useful". It would be paradise on earth i say. Screw work.

It would be amazing to have all that time to paint without any soul sucking job or responsibilities like that. I'd drop all the ridiculous random courses I'm forced to take and just take the art ones that I want since my degree would matter even less now. Just walk dogs and cook new things and recline in a comfy little apartment. Probably do some volunteer work or something if my ego wasn't satisfied by the mysterious thing I previously made to benefit the community.

That's pretty much how I live now, and its fucking awesome. I sit around all day, studying history and philosophy, playing music, writing books.

People who get bored just aren't utilizing their time correctly.

No, I'd much rather work, feel like I'm doing something productive and earning my lifestyle.

How could anybody turn this down because they want to, "Feel more productive,"? Don't you understand that the reason for the unproductivity and laziness in our lives is caused by the 9-5 routines we're stuck in? When you get into that routine of, 'Wake up early, go to work, get home, relax, sleep, repeat,' All you want to do with your free time is relax. You only have a few hours of free time, you're tired, you just want to make the most of it, by doing nothing.

Now, imagine that that 9-5 routine was gone. You don't have to work, you don't have to wake up early, the number of hours in a day is not limited for you. I can almost guarantee that if a person could live like that, they WOULD NOT just sit around loafting, playing video games, smoking, etc. Sure, maybe they would for the first few weeks, but after the shock of it wears off, they would get bored. They would need to go out and do something productive. They would take up art and want to create things, or go back to school for something, anything, and they wouldn't be doing it just to get a job down the road. They would be doing it just because its something that they are interested in and want to learn. They might even start volunteering, devote some of their excess free time to helping others.

Fuck the 9-5. Do you have any idea how productive we could be without it?

I get so bored and restless I don't know what to do with myself.

hells yes, so much I could do with some spare time, hell I might get a job with some decent benefits that isn't too difficult where when I retire I keep them and maybe open up my own store afterwords or something to that effect.

Yes. I'm antisocial enough that I'd love to be paid for what I've done in the past (beyond my VA disability, which doesn't cover the bills)... and I'd have more time to work on cars, computers and such. Maybe I'd even build the car I've been wanting to for the past decade.

I already have a job I love and have flexible hours, so for some of the time it wouldn't make much difference. But every once in a while I'd like to have extended vacations for some time and travel the world.

Besides traveling, having a guaranteed income would open up the possibility to try a lot of stuff that I wouldn't do now because they're financially risky.

So yeah, having more money (assuming is something like profits or royalties and not welfare) can only increase your options and your freedom. You can still work if you like, or just dedicate yourself to one or more hobbies, or do charity/volunteer work or just do nothing.

Considering that the way I have been like after graduation (trust me I have been trying to get a job) I pretty sure I can handle that. However if that somehow happen for real it does give me more option to do like going to the gym and etc.

I was brought up this way: The worst possible thing you can do is not carry your own weight. Your problems are your own, and if anything, you should be carrying the weight of the problems of those who you care for.

EDIT: For the reason, I practically sprinted out the door when I finished high school, and instead of going to college and making MORE money then I do now sitting around doing nothing but churning through classes I already know, I'm joining the work force.

Your sheer joy at the idea of rushing straight into a working environment with almost no drive to further your own education and knowledge actually makes me quite dissapointed that people can still think so little of education.

OT: With a link to my above paragraph, I think this topic has been looked at incorrectly. While I would have no problem not working an actual job for salary, my time would be put into education and research. (Especially in the areas of the Law / Environment / Science)
Working a job for pay for me is not the issue, it is the lack of mental challenge and stimulation that would drive me crazy.
