Hooray everyone lets jump on the conspiracy theory bus! /sarcasm

Let's see how many BS conspiracies we can list. Minus the ones already listed such as 9/11 being a govt plot and money being useless, I would like to add the next obvious two, the Moon landing and Pearl Harbor.
I am asking for opinions not douche-bag-ism
If someone thinks its a conspiracy i want to know why otherwise butt out or atleast give me a good drink recipe (chocolate-milk, white russian I dont care)

The South rising again. It won't happen. EVER!

I have never been in the deep South but, my dad goes to Alabama for business every month or two and he says that, the people there have gotten over the Civil War.

Alright, I just want to say everyone thought of saying 'the cake' prior to entering the thread. It's too easy.

The toothfairy, to be on topic. I've been searching for many years. I'm starting to doubt her existance.
true. i've never even played portal, but that joke is used so often that it was the first thing occurred to me when i saw this.

and i've tracked the tooth fairy to my current house. i've found part of her tooth collection and discovered that she seems to be making them into badges, judging by the large quantity of badges in the same room.

furthermore, the best drink is concentrated apple juice. unless you leave it out overnight, in which case it gives me a headache.

EDIT: i never do this so /thread and this^
Yeah, right. 9/11 was definitely true. Hell, I even remember how my parents thought that I broke the TV again when all of the channels except for channel 2 stopped working.

4/5 water
1/5 blackcurrant cordial

Enjoy.

A lie can be anything, since there is no objective truth, technically, a lie is a lie, but since a lie is only based upon the truth which it conceals, by accepting that there is no truth, there are no lies. No shades of white, no shades of black, just endless shades of grey with no definite conclusion or answer.

Yes, I'm a philosophy student. And not even my above statement, despite its apparent absolutism, was an absolute. Ad nauseum.

Could anyone explain to me how Pear Harbor could ever be a conspiracy (I know you dont think that, but apparently some do). I mean really, how could you get the US to bribe the Japanese Navy to assult on our own land on our one vulnerable day.

I guess i could see how the 9/11 EVENT could possibly be a conspiracy (planting explosives and telling terrorists to hit X floor at Y time) but I dont beleive it at all.

Conspiracys are weird.

The greatest lie, in my opinion, is that of the "blank slate". The idea that human beings are born without instincts, and that indeed, all modern ills are caused by society. This ties in with the whole "noble-savage" myth.

Human beings are not born as blank slates. You raise two people in completely identical conditions, they might grow up to be similar, but they will not be exactly the same. All human civilizations and races share the same basic facial expressions, emotions and capacity for language and abstract thought. We have instincts - for example, you could not raise a majority of males to be homosexual. The majority of males is, and always will be, straight. Only a few people are born homosexual, usually due to some error in the formation of the part of their brain which handles such issues as sexual attraction.

All human civilizations have crime, have violence and have language. The noble savage myth is exactly that, a myth created by some high-minded and nice liberal folk who wanted to get rid of racism - and that was a noble goal, no doubt about it. But we don't get rid of racism by pretending that non-white folks are "better" than white people. We get rid of racism by realizing that all human beings are exactly the same. The "!Kung San" (yes that is how their name is spelt) were originally held up has a poster child for the Noble Savage myth - until it was revealed that the researcher who claimed that they were "completely non-violent" was talking out of her rear end. The !Kung San weren't barbarians, but they did have wars, they killed each other, and did all those things all other peoples do.

Humanity is a great species. We do have the capacity for kindness, love, joy and wonder. But we are not perfect. The communists also made this mistake, thinking that through education, humanity was perfectable. The collapse of the USSR showed how that was a mistake.

However, there is hope for humanity. We realize that things like violence and greed are bad things. As our technology improves we might modify our own brains to more accurately reflect our ideals. It might take thousands of years, but I have confidence that we will eventually gain the ability to modify our brains so that we are not cruel, violent or primitive. I envision a day where rape, murder, gang violence and the like, are things of the past.

Humanity, as it is, will never get rid of crime. But who says we have to remain as we are?

Honestly what do you think is today's greatest lie? 9/11? Money? Love?
Give me your opinion!
Hmm... I think... I don't know how to articulate it clearly, but something like being able to buy your way into the moral right. We buy these green things because we want to feel like we're saving the planet, these fair-trade coffee beans, these local, organic, fresh fruits. Some of us look at those who don't or who can't afford it with a raised eyebrow and a snort, "we're better than those people who don't care enough to pay a little extra to do the right thing." But really, we aren't buying these things out of the goodness of our heart. We're buying it because it's a status symbol. It puts us on higher moral ground. And, for reasons good or bad, the market realizes this and sells that belief to us. My point is not that you should boycott this movement just to spite whoever is trying to dupe you ? I actually think it's great that there's a market for doing the right thing ? but be aware that it doesn't make you a "better" person than anyone else. Some people just can't afford to buy social innocence.
An aside: The biggest lie is that hybrids are better for the environment.

Hell No.

It takes more energy and creates more emissions to manufacture one Prius than are produced over the entire life of a Hummer.

So the next time you see someone driving a hybrid, feel free to laugh loudly at their blatant hypocrisy.

What is a lie.

Someone could write a philosophical college paper on something as vague as that.

But the simplest definition is a lie is the opposite of the truth. But the funny thing is truth is what society as a whole makes it to be.
