The wanting attention isn't what's wrong, it's what you do for the attention. If you want attention go out and do something to get it. Take up a sport and be good at it, invent something, do your job well and be recognized for it, something. What's sickening is when people want attention for doing absolutely nothing, so they try to manipulate people's feelings to get people to pay attention to them.

Nothing, unless the person desires it too greatly or goes about trying to get attention in an inappropriate way. Trying to end loneliness is fine but, beating a guy up so people will watch is not.

Question: What is actually wrong with someone wanting attention and/or sympathy?
I'll answer that if you can tell me what's wrong with other people wanting the opposite: To be left alone when they feel that solitude and personal thought is key instead.

It's all about finding a balance. Too little can be just as terrible as having too much.

nothing... everyone needs attention, some people take getting this attention too far but I think we should give other people more consideration. We should willingly hand out attention, I guess there will always be some people who'd beg for even more when they clearly have enough... but I still think 'we' can improve a bit. Be more aware and attentive to others.

It seems common to be more distant than close. To keep people away than to bring them in.

Edit: I'm never kind to the captchas that ask me to describe a brand in whatever words I want.
I'm pretty sure at this point "is crap" works for any of those... So whats the perpose of'em now.

OT: because it's a desire and anyone who shows some sort of desire is alienated for being selfish in this backwards world.

It depends on how much of your attention/sympathy they want.

I used to know a girl who was constantly moaning about the most trivial fucking things.
"I've lost my make-up bag, fml. I have no money left cause I spent it on booze fml. I'm sat opposite an ugly person in this restaurant, fml. I'm sooooo badly done to!"

There's only so much sympathy I can give someone. If you're always bitching and refusing my advice then I'm gonna give up on you. A cry of help from someone who genuinely needs it, and I'll always try help with their problems.
I've lost count the amount of times I've wanted a bit if sympathy or someone to talk to and they dismiss my problem as unimportant or just don't care. I always try give a helping hand when I can, I just don't like people who take the piss with it.
The worst thing is when someone is like that and when you try to comfort them they start being all pedantic and bitchy.

Avarage conversation with my friend:

'I have a hospital appointment tomorrow I'm worried'
'Well I hope you are going to be alright. hugs'
'Well Yeah, that's what I hope too >_>'

I mean what more do they want? To wave your magic future wand and make it all okay. I bloody hate that. There only so much comfort you can give someone in a situation you have no control over. There's a mate of mine who grumps constantly and when you try to comfort him he says things like that.

If you don't want me to try and comfort you stop grumping ffs. gah!

Nothing, but seeking either of those things on the Internet is not exactly a brilliant idea though.

This.

In return to the OP, I pose you this question; what is actually wrong with posting a thread with an informative title? Nothing worse than clicking on ambigious thread titles to find the content is a load of rubbish.

Needing attention and/or sympathy isn't wrong. Everyone needs someone who listens to them, or helps validate their opinions.

Having a dependency on someone to validate you, or demanding that people give attention when you need it, always when you need it, and to always be sympathetic to you despite their own feelings, is very wrong. It burdens someone else with the task of keeping you together; it creates an inability for you to hold yourself in esteem without the approval of others;it makes your issues everyone's issues, even if they want no part in them. It's irresponsible and just plain unhealthy.

Everything in balance. If a girl (and I'll say this from experiences with girls since guys seem to do this a lot less - least in my experience) is a little needy in that sort of playful kinda way its fine, even attractive, but if that shits constant you honestly just end up thinking to yourself "shut the hell up". I know a girl who lays it on really thick with the compliments at some points coupled with the derogatory self comments, but truth be told I find her a lot more attractive when shes taking and giving back witty replies.
