I've never heard of bonfire night here in Quebec, and I'm pretty sure it's not celebrated anywhere in Canada. Also, you only need to use ONE question mark per sentence.

*twitch*

What do you mean "Not famous anymore."? With the advent of EFG, V for Vendetta and Anonymous adopting his mask as a symbol, he's more famous than ever before.

We celebrate it because we get to make big explosions and fires, as if we needed an excuse.

UK only pretty much, though some ex-pats still celebrate it in other places.

Effectively its an excuse to light a big fire, blow up a few thousand pounds worth of fireworks and make toffee apples.

Of course, there is the rhyme:
"Remember, remember, the 5th of November, Gunpowder, Treason and Plot. I know of no reason why gunpowder treason should ever be forgot."

So there you go, we keep burning effgies of Guy Faulks because the 1700s tell us to. And sod it, if the Yanks can have 4th of July as an excuse to launch fireworks into the air, then we are keeping 5th of November.

No i dont think any other countries celebrate it. And why do we still celebrate it? Why not, it was a major part of our history, and it's a laugh.

We could say the same for any holiday... Why do americans still celebrate independence day, or why do we celebrate christmas or easter.

Because you use five question marks behind your sentence and capitalize random letters in your title.

That's why.

We loves our heritage over in Britain, and besides, fireworks, bonfires, eating sweet things and playing with sparklers does make for the funtimes. Also, as long as the day remains an important part of our history, which it is, we might as well celebrate Guy Fawkes in order to try and get people interested in learning more about him.

Christmas for most people has very little to do with the birth of Jesus, and Easter for most people has very little to do with his death. (I would wager.) Same issue.

Depends who you talk to. Some people say we're celebrating the Government foiling his plan, other say that we're celebrating his attempt and use it as a reminder that in the end, the Government answers to her people not the other way around.

We celebrate it because Guy Fawkes was going to blow up the houses of Parliament which would have killed hundreds of people and the King, but he was found before he could detonate the gunpowder and was hanged shortly after. We didn't like terrorists back then either!

The Aussies celebrated it up until the 1970s when they banned fireworks wikipedia tells me

Why would we cheer for a traitor? Why would we burn effigies of someone we like?
We celebrate the fact his treasonous arse was killed. At least, this is what i was taught. And it gives us an excuse to set shit on fire, set off fireworks and buy fireworks to extract the gunpowder to make hand grenades just in case of invasion, revolution or zombies throughout the rest of the year

We burn the Guy for a reason ;)

It's pretty much entirely a British thing, where, just for a night, we all celebrate setting fire to stuff. After my family had finished setting fire to stuff and scaring the local dogs with fireworks, a group of us played "Will it Burn?", a game inspired by the world-famous "Will it Blend?".

We were stopped from throwing my cousin onto the fire :( We were also told we couldn't use the wheelbarrow it was on to cart it into the house :(
