It's a moniker used by idiots to deride people they don't like, and a moniker used by other types of idiots who want to seem different and sensitive.

And I think that most emos live by the statement "Haters Gonna Hate".Seeing as most people I know dislike them for no good reason.
You mean like this? [http://www.hatersgoingtohate.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/haters-gonna-hate-eagle.jpg]

OT, while I can't stand whiny emo kids who won't stop complaining for no reason nor the stupid fashion sense of all black and tight fitting clothing, I still can't stop thinking emo girls are kinda hot...

Yeah, I find that sexy for some reason.
Yes, she is amazingly hot.

Difference between goth and emo:-

Emos hate themselves
Goths hate everyone else

I'll tell you what is NOT fucking emo. Heavy metal. Seriously, my sister, being a pop-loving sheep who will only listen to shit in the charts, thinks that heavy metal is emo.

but how do you tell them apart from the emo BOYS?
Hair, clothing, amount of make-up,style of make-up,and the fact that women have breasts.
Although both have vaginas...sorry, I had to go for that one, it would have been a crime not to.

After looking around on a few forums I found that the term "emo" is interpreted in many different ways. So my question to you my fellow Escapists is, what do you think "emo" is?
If you are really interested in finding out what the word actually means. Instead of taking the biased opinion of others, just do a little bit of research yourself. Who cares what other people think what the word means, try to find the history of the word on wikipedia or something then make the decision yourself.

If they define themselves as emo, it's definitely the style. Tight fitting clothes, black, make-up on both sexes.

My definition of emo though is somebody who wangsts excessively.

Luckily your feelings on the matter are irrelevant.

OP: Emo is a subgroup of the main goth culture, I think. Emo people are generally looking for attention, just like almost everyone else that dresses in that fashion, and I think that's why a lot of people don't like them. And the whiny, self-pitying attitude and poetry that is associated with them.
Sir, that is INCORRECT!

Emo is actually older then Goth, dating back to the 70's, but having remaining virtually unknown to the public eye (and later suffering commercialization). It originated in the United States.
Actually your wrong. He's wrong too, but you're still wrong. Goth is older than emo. Goth originated from post punk in the early 80's, emo emerged from post hardcore in the late 80's\early 90's. Of course, the current "versions" of both are so inauthentic that they only share names with the original scenes. I highly dbout you'll really see any hotopiccore kids listening to the cure, nor will you see any "emo" kids listening to orchid or pg.99.

EDTT: not that there is anything wrong with those kids...
Thanks for the correction on the Emo scene commentary. Personally I'm just more knowledgeable of the British Post-Punk Scene. Either way, yes, the commercialized version (which is far more common in the US) of both cultures has no resemblance to their origins.
