OP: Emo is a subgroup of the main goth culture, I think. Emo people are generally looking for attention, just like almost everyone else that dresses in that fashion, and I think that's why a lot of people don't like them. And the whiny, self-pitying attitude and poetry that is associated with them.
Sir, that is INCORRECT!

Emo is actually older then Goth, dating back to the 70's, but having remaining virtually unknown to the public eye (and later suffering commercialization). It originated in the United States.
Actually your wrong. He's wrong too, but you're still wrong. Goth is older than emo. Goth originated from post punk in the early 80's, emo emerged from post hardcore in the late 80's\early 90's. Of course, the current "versions" of both are so inauthentic that they only share names with the original scenes. I highly dbout you'll really see any hotopiccore kids listening to the cure, nor will you see any "emo" kids listening to orchid or pg.99.

EDTT: not that there is anything wrong with those kids...
Thanks for the correction on the Emo scene commentary. Personally I'm just more knowledgeable of the British Post-Punk Scene. Either way, yes, the commercialized version (which is far more common in the US) of both cultures has no resemblance to their origins.
