I have to say I am much confused about this site. I am only new here but I have lurked here for ages before since 2008. I probably know names of people that some of you don't know and know the names of those you think I don't know. Over the past hour or some someone from this site created an alt account and complained about the decline in forums and basically called out two people NewClassic and Furburt under the guise of claiming forum elitism and decline.
Ok, so I haven't been a member since as long any of you and my post count is a pathatic single or double digit but I can say I see no change in the forums. Yes some people are gone, like the angry Darth Mobius, the explosive Nomoresanity and Maxthereaper. Some of you may rejoice some of you may moan but this is a forum that grows and evolves.
My qualm however is the hypocrisy here. The minute someone brings up something negative the first words in retaliation are IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT LEAVE. That statement pretty much made up the entire criticizem thread, a valid statement maybe because is it fair?. If someone has a complaint and provided it was addressed head on instead of a cowardly alt account should the guy having the problem leave?. What happened to working things out?.
In this particular instance the accuser accused Furburt of being responsible in dragging down this site. First of all it is impossible for a one or two people to drag an entire forum but even if that was possible is Furburt and New Classic alone to blame?. What are they guilty of?. This guy basically said that the latter was a robot and the former has an annoying personality. Both are horrible example of elitism. I don't know about New Classic but yes, Furburt can be a bit overbearing at times and at the risk of everyone yelling at me for marring this sites golden boy, I do find him more often than not choking the threads with his banter. Now I am not saying its a bad thing for this site, it's just an annoying thing for me personally and since it is a personal matter I chose to ignore it. Simple as that.
The hypocrisy however comes in that once this anonymous accuser has been trodden by everyone for voicing his opinions (about elitism and his opinions on users) in an albeit cowardly way another thread crops up about how we all love each other. Now I'll get past the vague attempt made their at some ego smoothing but get to the point - this new, escapist acceptable, all draped with hugs and kisses and ego boosting thread, is basically filled with the elitism that was complained about in the orginal thread. So now we have two threads - one made by someone complaining about elitism and been told to GTFO for not complying to Escapist ways and the other made as an escapee E-peen competition where everyone can pat each other on the back and wonder how far they have come to celebrity status.
I get it, I really do. This is a great forum with a great community. Still is it really that great when all you can really say here "I love you guys and the site" and not "this is what's wrong with the site" because saying the latter instantly makes you a troublemaker and then you have to GTFO. That doesn't seem fair. For what it's worth I am not agreeing with who ever made the original thread but I am not disagreeing with him either. I do disagree with his/her point that this site is going down and I disagree that both Furburt and New Classic's personality is part of the problem but I do agree that elitism exists.
Look at it this way, if a random stranger with a low post count was personally attacked most of you wouldn't have noticed or cared. However the minute someone with fame was attacked personally then everyone is up in arms about how their best friend was attacked.
