Okay. Being young, and therefore having nothing real to add to this thread, I am forced to add this:

"Definition: 'Love' is making a shot to the knees of a target 120 kilometers away using an Aratech sniper rifle with a tri-light scope. Statement: This definition, I am told, is subject to interpretation. Obviously, love is a matter of odds. Not many meatbags could make such a shot, and fewer would derive love from it. Yet for me, love is knowing your target, putting them in your targeting reticle, and together, achieving a singular purpose, against statistically long odds."

I am honestly surprised that nobody has made this comment before me, and instead, gone for all the song quotes. Seriously people, put some effort into being unoriginal.

You've been sitting on this thread with an iron fist, joswie, and kinda mean to the people who've posted in it. This is an off-topic thread, so expect a little silliness on occasion, it won't get locked so long as most of us stay on topic.
Understood and I shall take it under consideration, it's just that I saw the duck thread and I don't want anything like that to happen here, I want a discussion, not just the off topic part.

Do you mean the love I feel for my dog?

Do you mean the love I feel for my friends?

The love I feel for my parents?

the love I feel for my sisters?

The love I feel for my backpack?

The love I don't feel for a girfriend that doesn't exist?

Or the love I don't feel for my children that are never going to be?

It's different either way. Give me some time; I'll see what I can come up with.

Apologies for giving you such a hard time; I just want to make sure you understand what you're asking.

The love that you feel for anything you feel connected to, the love you feel when every fiber of your being sings in unison in some way or another, the way you feel, be it sadness or glee at anything so long as it overwhelms you.
This can be towards a person you feel romantically for, your family, your pet, even towards a piece of art, but not simply I love x movie or what have you.

Not sure how to describe it since I'm rather bitter on the subject but I guess it means being completely happy and at peace.

nick_knack's HK-47 Quote is actually surprisingly accurate in respect to achivieving a singular purpose despite long odds.

Love is a rather unique feeling that is tied directly to your sense of loss. Romantic love is really just love tied up with lust. What I mean about loss is that it's the feeling that is created by the sense or the perception of life without someone important to you. For example, to truly understand love imagine your life without say your parents. The empty aching feeling caused by this thought is the basis of love. When you imagine that and then realize that you still have these people in your life that feeling is replaced by something more positive. This positive feeling is what most describe as love, though with every "coin" you can't have one side without the other.

In short, it's not the people you could be with forever, it's the people (or things) you can't be without.

this topic as been discussed at length since man was able to differentiate self from not self I'd suppose.

Love like beauty is for the beholder to define. The only other question that I can think of that has as many answers is 'what were god's motives in creating us'. sure everyone may have an answer and they're all right.

Oh and by posing the question, we die a little inside. At least until we reach the point where we can no longer feel love for anyone, anything, or ourselves.

There have been some good posts on this thread and there have been some lyrics to 90s dance music posted.

I'm going to leave this open for the time being on the proviso that people contribute sensibly.

Darn you beat me to it, I was just about to add that when I saw your post, I've always thought that that is a really great definition of love.

Love is a chemical reaction in the brain triggered when one finds desirable qualities in the opposite sex, which generally leads to foolish behavior and procreation.

Love is a classic example of humanity taking a simple biological concept and blowing it out of proportion.

But in a good way.

Love is when two or more people (it can be done!) experience the same scenario, look at each other for five seconds, and then proceed to laugh their arse off for a good ten minutes. That's pretty much the core to any love, be it friendly, familial, or romantic.

I'd like to extend my thanks to nilcypher on this one, especially since I was the one who convinced joswie to tone down the watchful eye.

Expanding on my previous post [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/18.70175.683905], love is easy to find and a joy to maintain. It's the drive that powers altruism, or the obsessive want, or need, to make another human being feel good, great, or wonderful.

There's a lot of allegories that can be made, but I do know one thing.

Love is power, it's the driving force behind passion, sexual or otherwise. It can drive man to kill, or to save, sacrifice or set aside. Love is special, in every kind of way, yet love is universal. Love is nondiscriminatory, and love is all-encompassing.

Okay, I'm rambling. Love is pretty cool, though, if not a little like a box of chocolates.

Nice to know I have mostly unintentionally sparked somthing so.... deep and simple. I never thought a non-scientific description of love could be so simple and objective. I am truly impressed.

Ninja'd! It is a pretty good definition though, once you read beyond the Star Wars jargon.

Love is a comforting lie that people search for in vain their entire lives before dying alone and unfulfilled.
QFT. Except for the 'comforting' part.
