What is metal music made of?

But seriously I don't know and I think no one really knows. My "metal" folder is about 15 GB but I'm pretty sure true metalheads would scrap at least half of it as non metal.

From what I have heard over the years, black metal is more metal than everything else metal. It doesn't matter what their hair looks like, how they dress, or what their instruments look like.

White face paint, with black on it. Leather clothes with spiked studs.

There, I've just describred every Black metal band. The only sub genre of metal I've seen avoid image trappings is... Uh, prog I guess? I certainly don't notice for that anyway.
