E3 is what, a month and a half away now? So I got to thinking, what would Nintendo's best case scenario be for its E3 conference?
There are three key points and here's how I think it would go:
1. 3DS Games and Features
The Nintendo 3DS has to see some more quality support. The launch line up was atrocious for the most part and it really needs to pick up the slack. Ground-breaking tech or not, no one will buy it without quality games behind it. This brings us to Super Mario 3DS. This is a no-brainer because they already said at GDC that they would show it off there. Hopefully they will include a release date for the end of the year at the latest.
2. New Nintendo console
For this to be best case they need to have a physical copy of it to show off and maybe some videos of it in action. Explanation of features, controllers, etc. would be a must. Changing how their multiplayer works would also be a must.
3. Games games games
This new console is the perfect opportunity for Nintendo to eliminate the only real advantage it's competitors have had for the last two console generations - triple A third party support. When it comes down to it, the strength of Nintendo's first party titles far outstrips those of the other console makers.
This is best case scenario, so this next part will seem a tad unlikely, but work with me.
Half Life 3. GTA V. Metroid.
That is probably the best case for this. We probably won't see Half Life 3 until 2012 anyway, so what better way to sell your new console than by having one of the most anticipated games of all time as a launch title?
I remember interviews in the past with Valve discussing their regret at not making anything for the Nintendo Wii. Now, with a system that can handle all the impressive tech that Valve's games have been known for, the next Nintendo console can start ushering in the big developers.
Next, the rumors surrounding Rockstar have to turn out to be true, and the next GTA does appear on the new console. This would be another great way to show that the more mature games on this Nintendo console aren't just violent chop-em-ups interspersed with some (admittedly funny) humor.
Those rumors about Retro Studios working on another game? True. Turns out, it's a new Metroid title. Likely first person like the Prime Trilogy. Maybe a sidescroller but then that would be for the 3DS in all likelihood.
What do you guys think Nintendo's best case scenario would be for this year's E3?
Anything I'm forgetting?
