Uggh, hate crime. I've heard that 90% of all interracial crime is black on white. Yet blacks never get charged with "hate" crime. The idea of a hate crime is just so stupid to me, because motivations are unknowable.
I'm interested in where you got this statistic. Also hate crimes are hard to prove because most offender who attack out of a bias don't admit it once they get caught. Unless there is strong evidence that they are crazy biased like journals or hate propaganda or the offender straight up says it they usually can't prove intent.

Also there are cases of black on white hate which get prosecuted as such, you just don't hear about them.....unless you are searching for them

People don't say that video games are racist because people of different races commit violence against each other in them, they say that video games are racist because they present inaccurate and derogatory representations of people of various races.

Well that makes most games guilty, I reckon. There are a few very well done, very subtle games with truly artistic characterisation. But for the most part, video game writing is a mish-mash of hack stereotypes. We should all be offended by most games, most of the time.

I'm not sure racism is the big issue, though. I think the big issue is shitty, unimaginative writing.

I figure that anyone who cries "Racism!" over games like RE5, which are obviously not intended to be racist (you're in Africa, chances are good that most of the infected will be AFRICAN!), are perhaps trying to overcompensate for their own biases. I figure this is usually the case with anyone who is trying to be politically correct. If you're trying really hard to be PC, you're thinking too hard about things that aren't that big a deal.

But you're missing my point...intent shouldn't matter. People should be judged based on their actions, not their thoughts. A white guy killing a black guy out of hatred of blacks should get just as much jail time as a white guy killing a white guy because he felt like it.

Well what about RE5? That could be considered racist, killing black zombies, nothing else but black people. Probably a bad move on Capcom's part.
Your in AFRICA. Who lives in AFRICA? It's not racist. Idiots just perceive it as racism.
I'm not saying it is rascist, I'm just saying, as you did, that people will take it as racism.

No way!!!! People, unless they are psycho, don't just go around and kill other people. If a white guy kills another white guy it is probably because of some perceived real reason (owns them money, going to ruin their reputation, etc.). If a white guy kills a black guy because they just don't like black people and wanted to "kill some coons" or vice versa a black guy just wanted to "kill some crackers" then they should completely have a heavier sentence. If I am white and hate blacks and go and beat up a black man to an inch of his life just because he is black how can I not justly get more of a sentence. That black man never would have been assaulted/killed/harassed if he wasn't black or I wasn't around. That is why hate crimes are important because most hate crimes are based on a belief other then any real provocation.

It isn't racist unless there is an intended discrimination towards a certain race - in your example, it wouldn't be racist, unless you went out of your way simply due to the race of the rocket-launchee.

Everything is racist, If a black guy is shown in a commercial for the army its because black people are just dogs to do the dirty work for white men, if a white guy is presented in the commercial its because white men are strong and black men are pussies.

I realize I will probably get banned for this post because someone will either not read to the end or just not understand that I'm not serious and report me.

Having played RE5 through to completion, I have to say that I don't think it is intentionally racist, but Capcom stuffed it with plenty of stuff that made me cringe. I never had a problem with the zombies being black, you're in Africa after all, but Capcom went out of their way to make the villagers seem hostile and alien, and stomping a black zombie to death as the lily white Chris Redfield was more than a little uncomfortable.

The icing on the cake though, was when I arrived at the native village and basically killed everyone and stole anything of value that they had; like Yahtzee said, Capcom aren't bad people, they're just idiots.

As I said, I don't think Capcom did it on purpose, but there's a whiff of colonialism that runs through the whole game. Some people won't notice it, or won't really care, but I noticed it, and it tainted my enjoyment, just a little bit, of an otherwise decent game.

Something is racist if it is meant to be discriminatory towards a race other than your own. Killing a black person on a game means nothing.
