Layla, Light My Fire, In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida (although the keyboard solos on those two are better), A House is not a Motel and A Hard Day's Night have pretty rockin' ones

As far as guitar solos go for just fitting the mood of a song, I lean more towards the one in "Rock & Roll" at about 3:30. It's extremely short, but it makes me smile every time.
how can you nominate a Velvet Underground guitar solo that isn't I Heard Her Call My Name?

This thread needs more Brian May. All his solo's are genius and the tone...my god the tone is mindblowing.

And dare I say Queen were the best band of all time...

Van Halen, Eruption.

Don't insult yourself or others by suggesting anything else.

Fuck yeah! I can play that. Well just the tapping bit at the end...
I can play the Muse solo that has been posted earlier in the thread too. Unfortunatly the Muse one has been removed from Youtube. I quite like this thread.

That. Seriously. If I can learn that, and master it, I'll die a happy man.
It isn't nearly as difficult as you'd think; none of Matt's guitar work is overly difficult. It's all brilliant, but none of it is very difficult.

I wouldn't know where to start for the 'best guitar solo ever', because there is simply far too much to consider... The guitar solo in Time by Pink Floyd has to be a contender though. Also Adrian Belew's solo in Elephant Talk (King Crimson).

My favorite is the solo from "All Day and All of the Night" by The Kinks. It's incredibly simple to play but sounds awesome with the rest of the song.
