Swizerland would be a NIGHTMARE to invade.

It is a nation surrounded by mountains, and they have dianomite which is readyto blow up all tunnels through those mountains. The citizens are armed to the teeth with semi automatic military grade assault rifles, and KNOW how to use them effectively. It will be VERY bloody and VERY costly if do anything but nuke the nation into the ground.

I think Switzerland. For all categories. Because with their amazing reputation for neutrality I'd expect every other nation on the planet to go "Oh hells no you did NOT just do that!" and side with them. Good luck fighting the whole world whilst invading a mountain range.

This is going without your unlimited army conditions because if you impose them neither side can ever win. Ever. You just get an infinite war of infinite attrition, infinitely.
Perhaps not. They might have an interesting national defense system (with every citizen required to own and be proficient with a fire arm) but on the allied front neutrality is a double edged sword. Not getting involved in global conflicts means they also never help anyone. Nobody owes them any loyalty or favors. They have refused entreaties to ally with others in the past, even in their times of need. I wouldn't be surprised if that came back to bite them in the ass in such a situation.
However, the fact that MANY international banks and organizations such as the Red Cross are in that nation, many nations and people would NOT benefit from Switzerland being invaded.

Silliest: Easter Island - I felt like adding a category.
Trust me, their have been sillier and dumber.

For example, Britian and Argentina went to war over the Falklands island, an island of South American which is little more than rocks and penguins.

I'm gonna go with Vatican City on this one.

Sure, it might be the smallest country, has no military and is filled with old arthritic men, but they're got one hell of a trump card:

Other people have already said this but its hard not to agree with the obvious truth that invading Russia never seems to work out.

Obligatory...

Of course Stalin's brilliant strategy in that war was to Zerg rush in Winter against the Finns :p
also Stalin ordered his soldiers to shoot down anyone that tried to retreat.

And would benefit more by going to war? Yeah lets just save these guys and afterwards they can go right back to not giving a shit about what happens to us. Unlikely. If anyone did come to their aid it would probably be at a cost to Sweden's long stance of neutrality, for instance joining a defensive agreement.

I have to say that it's a toss up between the US, Russia, Switzerland, China and the UK. For the reasons stated in the last 13 pages.

And of those that retreated that lived were put in move suicidal units that were given such tasks as "clearing lives mines by running through mine fields", "charging straight into machine gun enchaments," and to be "bullet sponges" for real soldiers.

I'm sure at least 50% of people have said it by now, but the hardest country to invade has got to be...

Fucking. Russia. I can't think of a single invasion of Russia that's been successful.

Barrings that, probably the U.S. Though a lot would (for any country) would depend on where you're invading from.

Not an army I would have wanted to be in.

The US definitley

Most technologically superior military: USA
Most money spent on National defense: USA
Only way of invasion without involving other nations being a costly coastal attack: USA
Filled with gun-toting nationalist rednecks all waiting for a fight: USA

Seriously the USA would not only be only of the hardest countries to invade, but with over 300 million citizens and an estimated 45% of those citizens who own firearms, your in for a hell of a fight.
I'm British (*adjusts top hat*) but I agree with the right to bear arms, as well as collect them, so I guess I'm... partially offended by your statement?

Canada 100%, because we've got so much land covered trees. There's not a lot we could bring with military might but it would be near impossible to successfully eliminate the resistance because the landscape is so varied a guerrilla/terrorist force would never be rooted out.

I think that question is a bit too general for a somewhat good/realistic answer.
Who is the invading army? Do real world politics matter? Or is it just on a "country vs country" basis? And what's the goal of the invasion, at what point would you consider said invasion successfull. Just military vicotry over the opposing army? Can scorched earth be applied or should the country stay intact?

That's kinda difficult if all players have unlimited basic hardware and military personnel ;)

But looking at the world right now it's really hard to judge with all that nuclear capability all over the place. Because if it doesn't really matter how the country looks after the "invasion" alot of big countries could nuke each other "clear" serveral times.

Without the nuclear option it's just too much of a question of "who is invading whom with the help of who else". So it can be all the big players like the USA, Russia or China.
