I have been thinking wht is the point of saw? why do people want to be scared and for film producers to add as much blood and gore as possible? why do people want to be scared that if they are facing a dark hallway they look over their shoulder to see if there's anyone there? I dont see the point in the horror genre. Phsycological horrors and thrillers i dont mind but things that are just full of blood. What is the point.?

People honestly like that sickening feeling. They like the fear. I assume its the same reason people like to bungie jump or play russian roulette.

People like to feel fear for the adrenaline rush. It's good.
People also like to be disgusted and so the gore is ramped up.

Pretty simple really: it sells.

I see how people love the fear but is it really necessary to see somebody intestines out of their body with blood flowing out like a gyser or one that dose not need all the blood but scares you out of your mind. Psycological thrillers have good writing whereas the other is just display guts and have as large a blood pack as possible

On the flip side of that you've probably got a number of weirdos getting some kind of pleasure watching these people do horrible things to themselves to escape these traps...

For a good bit of parody, go here:

Because as civilized as us humans are, we still have a survival instinct. So alot of us need to be subjected to this kinda thing or we'd just go crazy.

Or something along those lines anyway.

Actually, reading about the "storyline" I find it interesting. The whole having to do something so horrible in order to escape. But as a movie it does offend my humane senses, and therefore I have not yet seen any of the Saw movies.

If you want a good psychological thriller (some are really wierd) check out David Cronenberg movies like Videodrome or eXistenZ.

The "Horror" genre dosent deserve the name. I have seen true horror films and games and blood is not the main part. Case and point : Time splitters future perfect.

THE MANSION OF MADNESS: A deer plaqe comes to life and bursts through the wall with a body made of hunting equipment, a swarm of spiders embedded in the wall attack you, living cow carcasses that only die when tendarised in the kitchen. Take out the girl your with who provides comic relief and leave players on their own and it's quite a freaky level.

You're forgetting the bodies on the beds covered with blankets with dozens of kitchen knives stabbed into them, soaked with blood. But yeah, that level was quite freaky, especially the walking carcasses as they're a personal fear of mine. It's a long story.

That level always gives me chills. Don't forget the children's room with a rocking horse that continuously rocks or the skinned corpse in a bath of it's own blood. It's the most disturbing level in a shooter I've ever played.

The point of the game "Saw" was to capitalize on the success of the film franchise.

What? He/She put this in the Gaming Discussion forum.

OT: The film franchise is successful just because of the shock value associated with it. Although, it's getting less and less popular, and the next one might end the series. ^_^

But I really hate that challenge level where you're in the kitchen and you have to fight of waves of carcasses with only the injector, probably the weakest weapon in the game. They spawn in the kitchen as well as outside, there's no room to maneouver, they're quite fast and they're really good at pinning you in a corner.

Well, when I watch a movie like Saw, I only saw the first one, I think, "that person is stupid, they should have done x,y,z."

So for me it is kind of like, how could I outwit the killer. Sort of the same feeling I get when watching a mystery if I figure out the secret before the end.

Also, a movie like saw has a large mystery element in it. I enjoy solving puzzles.

But movies with just straight up gore, slasher flicks, are less interesting to me. I don't get scared by gore. And when things jump out at you and scare you, it's a cheap scare and doesn't really get to me other than that moment of "Ack!"

I get more frightened when I watch true crime type horror shows. Serial Killers and the like. Then it's more of the first part. I try to think of what I could do the better my situation if I ever found myself in the hands of a serial killer. It's the same reason I watch post apocalyptic stuff. For some reason I enjoy the mind exercise of the worst case scenario aspect of these shows.

Because it's fun? I find all the gore/horror movies best comedies ever. I loved all the B class horrors like Braindead, Hellrasier, Night of The Living Dead, Friday 13 etc. The blood or body parts mutilated every 5 seconds just make me chuckle., its amazing when someone or something gets splattered all over walls in a very 'artistic' way.

I don't know to feel the same raw energy our now long dead ancestors felt. Back when we hunted with pride and adrenaline pumped through every vain, or when we were hunted our selves. When almost every beast was the true embodyment of death and fear itself.

Or mabey its to convince ourselves? You know when its late and you're sitting in the stale darkness awake, perhapes with the glow of your t.v or moniter illuminating your pale face, and you hear that bump or bang in that cold seeping darkness. You see something just out of your peripherals catching a full glimpes of said creature and its something that just shouldn't be, but you shrug it off. Those things only exist in the horror movies right?

With love and Fear-Mcupobob
