What is the worst thing you have been accused/punished for when you weren't actually the culprit?

I once got accused of stealing $10,000 from my parents. I didn't even know they had that much cash laying around. I was grounded for a month, and had a lot of my life taken away from me, it was horrible. At the end of the month, my older brother confessed to taking $1000 to pay his rent. But that still left $9000 missing.

Fast forward 6 months, my dog runs into the kitchen holding a big envelope in it's mouth, covered in dirt. My mother opens it and lo and behold, $9000 in cash. Turns out my dog nicked it and buried it in the garden. I was given a portion as an apology for the social torture that was submitted on me.

I've got one. I used to play Magic: the Gathering with a group of friends.

One day, one of my friends lost a binder of rare cards. Or maybe it was stolen, I don't know. Anyways, he blamed me. He had NO reason to do so, but he did anyways. So, from then on, he, and the rest of the group, called me a thief.

I thought they were kidding at first, but then one of them told me straight-out that they were serious, and that they didn't trust me anymore. So, I left that group of "friends".

I actually ended up running into one of them a year or so later. I thought "oh, hey, maybe we can patch things up". But the very first thing he said to me was "So, you steal any good cards lately?". Never did convince them that I was innocent, and never hung out with them again.

MURDER

But seriously, I can't remember copping the blame for anything too severe when I was not the culprit. Admittedly, I usually am.

The only time I got the blame when I didn' do something that I can remember is...

More weird than bad. I'd just given my dog a bath and she jumped into the laundry basket, rubbing herself on all the clothes, then running down the stairs in my night gown before I could catch her.
My mother never believed me when I said that she did it herself. Of course, whose to blame her? Apparently my dog was really good at pajamas.

I took out my phone to check Twitter on the train. A girl sitting opposite me started abusing me because she thought I was using my phone's camera to take pictures of her.

I got really mad about that.

Well, less than a week ago I received an email informing me the worktop and carpet in the kitchen of my halls of residence have been burnt and we will have to pay for them to be repaired/replaced. The burn on the carpet has been there since I moved in in October and I know I'm not the one who burnt the worktop, but unless the person who did it confesses, we're stuck paying for it between 5 of us.

Oh and several times people have thought I've liked/been attracted to them when I was just being generally nice. *shrug*

I got accused of sexually assaulting my college roommate's girlfriend. We were friends at the time, until he knocked up his girlfriend. Then he got all insane-y, and his girlfriend went along with it. There was no real evidence, so it became my word against his. I thought they would be inclined to believe me, especially after he started sending me threatening text messages and they found out that he was a paranoid-schizophrenic from his medical records. The school had a "zero tolerance" policy for sexual assault though, regardless of whether or not it actually happened.

I ended up transferring to a different school to get the hell away from the guy, the girl, and the stupid, Stupid, STUPID faculty who believed the crazy nut-job sending me death threats and his pregnant and equally crazy girlfriend over the guy with no mental health problems that might cause him to make up such a story.

I was once accused of attempted rape. Not criminally of course, but the incredibly false accusation stung all the same. It's not a story I wish to tell; but seeing as I, myself, am a rape victim, it made the whole debacle all the more painful for me. (Re-opened wounds and such)

Last year we did a chemistry assignment on something, I don't remember what, and I got paired with this clueless jackass who didn't do anything at all, which meant I had to do everything. I told the guy to return the report everyone had to fill. He had everything he needed written on paper, but predictably, he was too much of a retard to DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE FUCKING REPORT AND HE RETURNED IT PRETTY MUCH EMPTY. Naturally, because of this, I didn't finish the course, and this year I had to redo it. The kicker is that Dumbass McShithead left school before the course was over, so he didn't suffer from it at all.

I once got accused of breaking up this couple and stealing away the girlfriend from him............while I wasnt even on the same continent for 2 weeks while it happened.

The issue got resolved with a swift fist to the face and an apology.

I had a teacher get an entire beach in his vagina last year because he claimed I was laughing at him after he'd asked me to stand on the other side of the corridor - someone had just finished off the joke they were telling me before he'd come along.

Other then that, nothing really.

I have been accused of harassment of a minor when I was working at a job. It turns out she liked me and wanted to date me but she was underage so it was an no automatically. But I was happy to be her friend and I thought that was the end of it. But as it turns out when I was getting ready for work the next day I get a call from my store manager telling me I was accused of trying to force her to hold my hand. So I was let go until the situation was resolved and this was about maybe 4 or 5 weeks. But she finally got herself in trouble when she tried to pull the same lie on a costumer. That dude was not happy when he found himself surrounded by the cops and then I was allowed back to work but I couldn't get my back pay because I was still on my 90 day probation and when she accused me I was on my last freaking day!!!

I've got a couple. In primary school, I got publically called out and given detention for climbing a tree. I was in the library at the time, but apparently the teachers saw me clearly. Still annoys me, and this is nearly 20 years now.

More recently, I nearly got fired for apparently saying I wanted to shoot everyone at work, and even dreamed about it. I only DIDN'T get fired because the main boss believed I wouldn't say things like that OUT LOUD. It later came out that the person who "overheard me" made it up, because I was friends with another person they didn't like.

Stealing my friend's mobile phone in highschool. A teacher accused me of stealing it as I was giving it back to my friend. (It had fallen out of his pocket and onto the floor) Yes, that's how I steal things, I find them and return them to the owner. I'm brilliant like that. Thankfully it wasn't followed by any punishment.

I remember in primary school when I was 7 I was accused by a mother of bullying her little girl because she wore glasses. This accusation blew over when I pointed out two things to the mother:
1) I'd never really spoken to her daughter.
2) I wear glasses. (I had them on at the time too)
