What is to be considered an "unfair" weapon?

there are weapons that are imba, and weapons that should resultantly be balanced, but as long as they are not balanced, all's fair in war... and love?

The classic pistol from the frist Halo. It's not that unfair to other players since everyone has it. It's just a bit unfair to all the other weapons since there really is no reason to even pick them up when you already have the allmighty side arm that could take out any foe from a mile away with an accuracy that rivals a sniper rifle.

Because when it becomes "HAH I SEE U" and one shot drop that requires minimal tactical skill, it kinda diminishes the purpose of playing.
Each gun has it's advantages and disadvantages. The sniper is accurate at range, but once you take it close-quarters your dead(at least in most games), and most maps are balanced so a sniper can not sit and camp(at least in the games that I play online) without the possibility of being back stabbed.
I'm sick of hearing complaints like this, I play SF, and I snipe more than I spray simply because it makes the game a lot harder. I'm good at getting at aiming quickly and I'll usually move around the map, but I'll get my ass handed to me when it comes up to a sprayer who is half decent(because once you get hit, your shot goes wide). Each side is generally equal, so stop complaining.

The AWP catches grief because very few experienced CS players miss their opening shot and feel the only true measure of skill is the number of headshots and the kill/death ratio. Sniping generally uses the same basic skill set as everything else, but it gives you completely ludicrous amounts of firepower. Nobody complains about getting shot in the head by an AWP (or a scout for that matter), but when you consistantly get snagged in the toe or through a box and collapse it can grate on the nerves.

That said, I don't really think the AWP is unfair, just perhaps a little to low priced. In the worst case scenario, the only thing the price of the weapon does is shift the amount of time it takes to get your weapon of choice, and really seems to do little more than help ensure a winning teams keeps winning. Even that only matters at the beginning of a match though - by the end there is usually enough cash handy to get a suitable weapon in every hand.

My pick for most unfair weapon would probably be the farsight (I believe that was the name) rifle in Perfect Dark. Excellent Auto-Aim, one hit kill on any setting and the ability to engage a target anywhere on the level no matter how much cover they have.

If there's a powerful weapon, it makes logical sense to use it because at the end of the day, all that matters is that you live and they die. In war they don't complain about weapons being unfair. You want your weapon to be more powerful than the enemy's.
I have the nagging suspicion that war isn't a whole lot of fun. It's not that it really bothers me when players choose to use unbalanced weapons when they're available, but I think it's the job of the developer to make sure that games have enough balance that there are more than a handful of effective strategies.

Honestly, the Farsight XR20 is pretty much one of the only existing "Noob weapon" for one reason, it's target-finding mode, it is true I can (and always do) stoop to their level of cheap-ness by using it as well, but the gun basically does the job for me, then I feel like a moron because I don't have the skills to kill people and need the gun to do it for me, so I get up and one of the lesser-minds (who don't realise that they are basically camping the game away) shoots me with that same cheap gun. THAT people, is a "n00b" aka "unfair" weapon (only because it does the fucking job for you... the OTK was a bit much to but it was forgivable, just takes away from the fun)

I don't like snipers. In most games the learning curve on them is a bit more difficult than any other weapon but anyone who's good with one is essentially unstoppable. Though in games like CoD4 where a head shot with almost any weapon will kill you in one bullet I don't have a problem with them. The games In which im referring to are things like halo, unreal tournament, gears of war, and pretty much anything else in which you can take a whole automatic rifle clip without dying.

Anyone who complains about rocket launchers of any sort being 'noobish' or unbalanced need to get their heads out of their butts. Of course it does a lot of damage and kills you most of the time. It's a damn rocket that EXPLODES when it hits your dumb ass.

In Halo 2, I think everyone rushed for the energy swords initially because the memories of getting owned by cloaked elites from the first game were still fresh in their minds and they thought, "Oh man. I'm going to pwn some fools!" Personally, I found that if you were patient and let the guys rushing for the sword fight it out you could just pick them off with grenades or something.

Rockingness.

Let me brag. In Left 4 Dead me and my friends attacked a group before right once they got out of the safe house. Instead of running, they hid in the safehouse allowing me to vomit on them time and time again.

In the end 2 quit and the other 2 died without stepping foot out of the safehouse.

The gun is only as good as the soldier wielding it. I can't think of any unfair guns in MP games (at the moment, I'm sure there are tons)

Droideka, Star Wars Battlefront I and II, especially the first one, on certain maps, like Bespin: Platforms in the first and Coruscant in the second...
Never played the first, but I kick the crap out of them in II. Honestly, Clone Commanders are more annoying.

An unfair weapon? VATS.

Sword (Halo ) is such a annoying weapon, and I can honestly say that I have never ever used it. It makes my brain boil when someone camps behind the corner with it. Anybody can play with it so its not about skill.
