Have you ever wondered what went through the [people's] heads when they named something.

I'm talking about stuff that makes absolutely no sense at all.

For me, it was when I was listening to this awesome song on Pandora in another tab, I checked back and the title was "Spit or Swallow". The song had absolutely nothing to do with the title, considering the imagery it conjures.

Kind of like your name?
You get that his name is Marioland backwards, yes?

Some people are just a little strange when it comes to names. Names like Apple come to mind. Though my all time favourite is Zappa's kid Moon unit. Also the song vicinity of obscenity by SOAD comes to mind. The title fits the song but it doesn't make any more sense because of it.

I wonder about the names of various animals kangaroo? wombat? cockatoo?
They most likely come from aboriginal though I can't be sure without researching (which I won't).

I think it's funny that my thread got derailed as soon as it started. What happened there?

Finally, someone gets it!

You're the first person that understood without having to be told.

Damn...now I feel like an insensitive jerk... ah well *flips open sociology book* here we go Shulamith Firestone not a thing with an odd name but I find the name noteworthy anyway.

I admit it. I'm bad at solving puzzles like that. Mostly because I'm dyslexic and I can't take gibberish and turn it back in to gibberish.
Still, what is the point of doing it backwards when it doesn't spell anything cool like Redrum or Racecar.

How can you start a thread about odd names and not think something that has to be read backward won't be questioned?

I remember seeing people join a page/group on facebook about someone who had the name: "Jesus Condom" which I thought was pretty weird.

Oh, it's just that I made that name up for all of my online accounts a long time ago, and I'd forgotten about it. So now I'm reminded, and I'll have to repress that memory again.

Kangaroo is rumored to be aboriginal for 'I don't understand' as the british explorers in true english tourist style asked the non-english speaking natives 'I say what do you call that frightfully odd animal over there chap?'

not certain on that but it's funny nonetheless

EDIT: Dammmit Foiled by Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kangaroo#Terminology

That series didn't take off til wario took the reigns anyway. I still Rank the Wariolands as some of the best 'mario' games. How do you pronounce that by the way 'dee nahl oy ram' is how I see it.

There was a retired member of the House of Representative who was named Dick Sweat. Seriously, I wonder if his parents hated him or the words "dick sweat" meant something completely different back then. I would vote for someone named Dick Sweat out of pity.
