I find him hilarious. I actually haven't heard his latest stuff, but his older stuff I find great and hilarious. I rank him with Mitch Hedberg and Jim Gaffigan.

Why do a lot of people (especially on here) hate him so?
For an added bonus ask this question about Nickelback and Justin Beiber!

I have always wondered where the seemingly arbitrary hate comes from toward these three in particular
I find the Dane Cook take his jokes WAAAAAYYY too far. You say "Shut up Dane" a few minutes before the joke is over. Sure he's funny, but never where the punchline is meant to be.

I actually used to enjoy Nickelback, and then they did the whole "We're just gonna sing about sex and be all about sex" the lead came on stage at one of their concerts, told some story about how he wanted to be a porn star (actually EVERY man wanted to be a porn star) and how they told him that while he was more than long enough, there was just something missing. He then posted the drummer's face during a solo and said "That was it" and it was just.... all kinds of lame. They're trying the sex scene WAY too hard...

And I just find Justn bieber doesn't deserve the credit. He's popular because Usher found him, tossed money and cars and stuff at him, and the pre-pubescent kid sings about love. Something he really doesn't know anything about... I had the same problem when Aaron Carter tried for fame. He sang about shit he didn't know about and rose to fame in his brother's shadow

Simple. It's fun to hate popular things. Some people love hating on popular acts simply because it makes them look non-conformist. So yeah, they try to seem like individual by jumping on the hate bandwagon. It makes sense in context I guess.

I don't hate Dane Cook, I just don't really like his style. I don't hate Nickleback, I just think all their songs kinda sound the same. I don't hate Justin Beiber, I haven't even formed an opinion about him.

So yeah, that's my take on it.
it is funny because being nonconformist for the sake of being nonconformist is <a href=http://www.cracked.com/article_18916_5-reasons-why-anticonformity-worse-than-conformity.html>objectively worse than being conformist

Yours is an opinion I can respect. You don't have this elitist view of "what is good and what isn't". You understand that opinions are subjective and liking something doesn't make you a terrible person or have terrible tastes in whatever. People are allowed to have their own opinions about everything. It doesn't make anyone wrong

tl;dr: Different strokes for different folks.

You cannot compare him to gaffigan, gaffigan has style, delivery, consistency.....humor
Why not? They both make me laugh pretty hard. I can't really decide who is funnier.

I always wonder this too. I can sort of understand people hating Bieber. Well, they hate his fans, then project that onto him. Hey, you gotta have one easy target person to hate on.

But Nickelback...I don't get that hate. Nickelback...sure they're not the best band in the world, but they're nowhere near terrible. People baffle me sometimes...
This only thing I hate about him is just this huge event horizon in pop culture he has. I really can't go a day without him. To iterate it better, imagine hearing about a game everyday. Not just about how good the game is, but also just arbitrary hate speech toward the game. Maybe the game is good, maybe it isn't, but at that point it doesn't matter.

He is horribly unfunny. Yet, somehow makes a substantial amount of money while other much funnier comedians make less than half of what he does.
Were we talking about Larry the Cable Guy? Or almost any other ridiculously popular commedian?

Also, my captcha was Integrin sentions. This is relevant somehow.
Larry the Cable Guy and rest of the yokels on Blue Collar Comedy are also terrible.

Exception being Ron White, who is pretty good.

I actually really enjoy his stand up specials, except for Isolated Incident. It started out strong, but ended horribly.

Pretty much, its a mixture of differences in people's tastes and the teenager mentality of "its fun to hate on popular things". I used to be like that. Glad I grew out of it.

They don't like him because he isn't their cup of tea. They are vocal about their hatred because they think that will make them look cool and against the popular opinion.

At least, that's what it seems like to me. As I said, I like him. Liked him even during my "against the popular opinion" phase.

Hey! Give some credit to Bill Engvall. He's pretty good too.

I believe he made me laugh once, possibly twice.

The worst thing about him is when he...*hic...``acts``...in movies.

My issue with his stand up is that he seems to mistake being loud for being funny and I find his routines to be annoying because of it

As an actor, he's alright. Not terrible but nothing noteworthy.

Personal preference. It's something that you will need to cope with.

OT: I like him actually. I don't think that he's the best, but I like how extreme he is. He's got his own unique style.

I've never really seen his stand up... I didn't even know he did stand up before reading this thread so I can't judge on that. Seen some of the movies hes in, I don't think hes bad... He's a little bit of a one note actor, but he does it well in my opinion.

As for whether or not I hate him... I can't think of anything he's done for me to hate him for.

I think the last one on this explains it to some degree, but I don't really know Dane Cook so.... I dunno, all I've ever seen him as is a much less funny Ryan Reynolds, to the point where I actually though Employee of the Month was starring Ryan Reynolds (I was younger then... shutup!). But I don't know if he's ever done anything really horrible that someone would like to alert me to?

Same reason everyone hates Bieber, he makes tons of money and has tons of fans, thus, internet people hate him. Has nothing to do with his stand up.

Personally I think he is ok, not the best, but ok. I doubt neither I nor any person here saying he sucks could do better.

I actually have the same opinion of Dane Cook and Nickelback. They haven't aged well for me. I look at the older material for both and still get a lot of joy out of it. The new jokes/songs are just gawdawful to me.

They're obviously both still immensely popular entities, but I think that's due to a new crowd supporting them. So the old crowd probably feels betrayed and annoyed, leading to the hate.

One major complaint with Dane Cook is that the majority of what little funny material he has was stolen from other, better, comedians. Also, screaming your stories into a mic does not make them funnier.

His older stuff was really good, and he became popular by word of mouth. Unfortunately, when he finally did "make it", he had lost the funny, and so a huge crowd of people gathered to watch him flounder.

Some of them were unfamiliar with his good work, so they had essentially heard someone talk up an unfunny person, from their perspective.

Pretty much the same view, but I can see how some bits haven't aged well as well.

Still, he's okay. Nothing that can revolutionize comedy, but nothing harmful either. His bit on the Insomniac Tour is still pretty funny though, that holds up.

I live on a diet of Simon Munnery and Daniel Kitson bootlegs, so his material just seems amateurish to me.

He's better than the usual American club comics though.

In that he actually has his own personality and his jokes don't consist entirely of fellating the mike.

But he's still pretty mediocre.

Dane Cook is a great comedian for A.D.D middle schoolers. Kids like his over exaggerated story telling and it's simple. People who want something more than him screaming into a mic "and then a TIRE hit her in the FACE!" don't like him. When you get older and grow a brain you discover he's not funny and move on to better comedy.
