Wanton cruelty, in any shape or form, to animals or people. Cruelty to dogs in particular gets my blood boiling, as I've always been a dog person and our family has had dogs since I was a baby. I wont even tolerate jokes about it and whenever I accidentally read something about dog poisoners or other such human viciousness, it completely ruins my day. There's nothing that shows a person's true monster as what they do to those who are helpless to resist. I get the feeling that I could watch all manner of atrocities be committed on people who do that kind of shit, so I guess I'm technically a hypocrite for thinking their human rights should be revoked.

To a lesser extent, I hate people who boost their own ego by belittling others, whether it is at school, work, or even in bed.

- people who misrepresent scientific evidence for their own gain

- people who're cruel to animals

But evil done in the name of ANYTHING and EVERYTHING else is hunky-dory in your books? Again, you're singling out a group of people to shit on due to a specific trait. Also, your idea of "evil" is subjective. Pro-lifers value human life at any stage of development, and therefore see pro-choice as murder.

The whole "alpha male" movement that talks glibly about emotionally manipulating women to get laid, then passively bullying others into the same practice to reinforce their misguided belief that they're entitled to this. I've never met somebody like this iRL, but I just cannot imagine any conversation with them that wouldn't end in fists. Granted, I never win fights, but it's almost not the point.

I was talking to a guy in my class the other day, and he randomly mentioned how he and his friends would do the women manipulation thing. I thought it was kind of funny cause he's a short, annoying bastard, and I thought "No way this dude's getting laid."

I don't really have any emotional flashpoints, seeing as I'm an apathetic bastard. Case in point: Eric Snowden and the NSA leaks. When news hit that the US was spying on its citizens all I could come up with was a "Oh, I thought we all knew that. Whatever, next website!" I didn't care in the least bit about it and saw it as something we already knew. Then there are the people saying how we should be thankful to Snowden for being so brave to do what he did for us. Didn't care and still don't care about what he did. In fact, every time I see some news story about him now, I always say to myself that he might get shot.

Then before that was the Xbox One debacle. All I got from the presentation was that there was gonna be a Halo t.v. series streaming on it. I loved that one of my favorite game series was finally getting a television show. Then E3 came and the information on its DRM came to light. When that happened, I saw all these posts that pretty much amounted to "Xbone is shit, you shit for liking it" everywhere, yet I didn't care. None of the DRM policies really struck a nerve with me, not eve the always on kinect camera. All I cared about was that if I decided to get it, I would need around $600 by november.

I tend to steer clear of any debate about any relevant controversy on the net, seeing as it essentially boils down to shit flinging from all sides.

I'll preface what I say as not trying to come off as hostile to people in this thread because while it's not my intention to target anyone here (or more likely the posting population as a whole in this thread) the specific opinion I have might lead to that misunderstanding.
I hate egocentric people that will look down on others for having views that are not theirs. I do not mean the people in this thread, and the OP was very good about keeping that thing out of here when he urged people to not try and ridicule those who share opinions they don't agree with. I mean the kind of people that will have a different opinion and straight up call you stupid for not having their opinion. Not saying that that view isn't smart, not saying that the reasoning behind having that view is flawed, but blanket writing people off as stupid because they disagree with said view. The people in this thread are expressing their opinions, and if that opinion is that X thing is stupid that's fine. I'm sure they have real reasons that are valid and that is a good solid basis. But if someone were to come along and tell them that holding that view just makes them stupid or worthless in some way, because that person disagrees with them, we have a problem.

I like to think that I'm a respectful guy when it comes to arguing, and I guess that's part of why this sort of thing pisses me off. I don't get super angry, cause there is not much that you can say on the internet that will really make me anything more than a little frustrated. But it's one of the few things that gets to me.

I don't like being talked about as if I'm some sort of walking incubator.

I also hate the "well, maybe you shouldn't have opened your legs" comments that often follow.

Also, the strategic use of the word "mother". As in, when a women becomes pregnant, even in the beginning no matter what the circumstance, she is always referred to as 'the mother' by pro-lifers in abortion debates rather than a woman or even a girl/child in some cases.

I could go on for years but anyway, pro-life arguments piss me off.

For example when someone does something very heroic or noteworthy, people around where I live will like to say a phrase "That was God working through you." No lady, sorry, you don't get to coopt my actions to support your invisible person in the sky.

On the flipside, when they say things like "The Devil made them do it" and are serious. One example was I saw a poster online, in regards to the guy who had the 3 girls in his basement for a decade. She said that "The Devil kept them locked up for a decade, and God kept them safe!" Really? Oh well if it was the Devil responsible, then I guess we can let that guy go then huh? Also, if God kept them safe, why didn't he keep the multiple miscarriages safe when the guy punched them in the stomach?

It's unfounded, superstitious nonsense, that detracts from humanities achievements and tragedies, and it really annoys me to hear it.

I have two biggies: false equivalencies and automatic contrarians. They're somewhat related/interwoven in that a lot of false equivalencies are generated by automatic contrarians.

An automatic contrarian is someone who flocks to a minority opinion for no reason other than (a sometimes stated but typically implied) exhaustion with the majority opinion. They don't have logical, rational, sensible, defensible reasons for their views. They simply want to go against the grain in order to appear exceptional. They want to be special snowflakes with radical ideas that stand out from the background. In a nutshell: their narcissistic desire for attention overrides their capacity for analytic thought. They'd rather be seen/heard and wrong than ignored and right.

False equivalencies occur whenever two things that are clearly different get lumped together for the sake of simplicity and/or personal gain. This often happens when someone has no leg to stand on in an argument and so he/she resorts to willfully ignoring obvious disparities between two opposing viewpoints in an attempt to reduce the debate to utter meaninglessness. It's a lazy, idiotic practice designed to obfuscate, derail, and destroy intelligent communication. Some examples: "Sony and Microsoft are the same because they both want your money"; "Republicans and Democrats are the same because they both take money, have scandals, etc."; "evolution and creationism are the same because they're both theories".

On a more serious note, a friend said the other day that she thought her country was one of the best in the world. This didn't so much anger me as make me completely baffled. In what way does one define one country as better than another? Is she saying that her people are just inherently superior to everyone else? As I say, I'm not annoyed, but at the same time I've had this on my mind for days and I just can't rationalise it. I blame the nationalistic education system myself.

So yeah, I suppose petty nationalism is a flashpoint for me.

Police brutality.

Something about the idea of abuse of power coming from those who are granted exceptional legal status drives me nuts. I don't quite have the vocabulary to describe how furious I feel when I see videos of cops beating or tazing people.

It's one thing to feel angry. It's quite another to feel both angry and helpless.

Luckily the police where I come from are generally pretty good. All the cops I've personally dealt with were total pros. Although some of the stuff I've heard them say while off the clock gave me pause.

They are human too. Police officers and military personnel have their own jargon and humor. It might seem rude or outright inhumane but it is just their way of coping. As long as it doesn't affect their action on the clock just bear with them. They feel isolated enough from regular folks as it is.
