Sloan - Power Pop/Rock - Because they own your soul.

Genesis and Elvis Costello are up there too.

Edit -- Don't be surprised if this thread doesn't last too long.

Rage against the machine. Great guitarist, good vocals and pretty decent drums and bass. You can't go wrong

well, this thread has to have been done a few times more than excessive.

But, I like to share my views, so:

Queens of the Stone Age - They are the one refuge I have for modern rock that I feel still have the ideals and sound of older rock. This means they aren't progressively emo, or punk, or other generic sound that this generation of music has pumped out thus far. "Mosquito song" goes down as one of my favorite all-time songs ever made.

Sam Roberts - The best canadian band imo, they continuously get better and better, and I am pumped to see them in January. They play a folk type of rock, and aren't garbage like most other candian rock ensembles (curses nickelbacks). My favorite song of theirs is "love at the end of the world"

Flogging Molly - No words for this band except that you will never find better celtic music. Each album, especially their new "Float" Album, is absolutely unreal, up-beat and fun to listen to. Not to mention some of the best drinking music for a bunch of friends to get drunk to.

Metallica, closely followed by Iron Maiden. Some good stuff there.

Even St. Anger? That was a dreadful album.

Trivium - Metalcore: Overall brilliant vocals - melodic choruses and decipherable screaming.
Slipknot - Metal/Thrash: ....it's Slipknot. They be crazy. Crazy awesome.
36 Crazyfists - Nu Metal: I never really thought about WHY I like this band. I just do.

I have a few.

Dream Theater- Progressive Metal- I love pretty much everything about them... it's hard to decide between whether I like it more for the keyboardist, the drummer, or the guitarists...

Porcupine Tree- Progressive Rock- They're very mellow and always help me calm down when I'm in a bad mood. Plus, the lyrics sometimes scream "we wrote these to get laid" so it can be kinda funny.

Paramore- Punk (I guess? Tough to say)- I love Haley William's singing voice, and their music has a fairly original sound to it.

Barenaked Ladies- Soft Rock- The singing voice, mellow tone, and hilarity of many of the songs that these guys come out with makes me laugh, smile, and think all at the same time.

Evanesence- Goth Rock- I just like her voice and the metal/techno-ish sound of there songs. Good entertainment all around.

Yet, ironically, my favorite song is Very Supersticious by Stevie Wonder. I have a VERY odd taste in music. Only things I won't listen to are country and most rap and pop.

Rammstein, Ich leibe Rammstein
Disturbed, although they are getting progressively worse.
Korn, this band was awesome, then they released their newest, and surprisingly shitty CD, but I still love all their other albums

The New Pornographers - Harmonic Indie Rock with a heavy Power Pop influence.
STARS - Witty Pretty Indie Pop is the best way to describe them.
Sigur Ros - Sort of like a happier Radiohead... from Iceland.
Broken Social Scene - Canada's premier Indie Rock Supergroup.
