Linkin Park
From "Hybrid Theory"...
<youtube=vjVkXlxsO8Q>

To "Minutes to Midnight"
<youtube=LBTXNPZPfbE>

Not so much "A Thousand Suns"
<youtube=5qF_qbaWt3Q&ob=av2e>

but hopefully their new ones better
<youtube=zgEKLhvCCVA>

Though it still sounds too close to "A Thousand Suns" from my tastes

NOBODY HAS SAID GORILLAZ YET??

Ok then. Gorillaz. First self titled album is incredible. Demon Days is absolutely brilliant. I mean out of this world amazing. Plastic Beach isn't as good as the first 2 mains, but it will grow on you. I recommend listening to them in order to get a feel for the progression of the sound.

On top of that, check out their other (b-side-ish) albums. G-Sides is an interesting listen. D-Sides is excellent, carrying the same sound as Demon Days . The Fall I didn't particularly like, but there are some good tracks on there nonetheless.

Death Cab for Cutie has some pretty unique music, I think they're amazing. They're still sort of indy, but they're mainstream enough that they're not exactly a hipster's choice.

Have you heard of "Cute Is What We Aim For"? it has a similar mesh for quite a bit of their songs.

Tool. Tool? Yes, Tool. I just like to say Tool. Tool Tool Tool Tool Tool!
I was starting worry. No mention of Tool, I would have been disappoint.

I've been listening to Tool for about 15 years now and I'm still not sick of them. Seen them live three times, and I'd go see them again.

And I'm not a blind fanboy; I dig why some people don't like them or would call them try-hard or pretentious. But they are delicious to my ears.

Shihad. They're been around for almost as long as I have and their music has spanned multiple genres from thrash and industrial metal to electronic rock and pop. I've seem them live a lot and each one has been hilarious fun. They're as bogan and as unsophisticated as you want but they rock and they love every minute of it.

There's a documentary about them coming out soon. Will have to see it.

I love dc Talk, probably my favourite band of all time :)

However, if you aren't into the Christian Contemporary Music scene, I personally quite like Labrinth, Mr Hudson, and Owl City. If you're into hip-hop at all, you can't go wrong with some Kanye West (provided you can get past the ego) and Tinie Tempah.

Well I'm going to throw out a few artists that dropped albums in 2012.

Andrew Bird
Band of Skulls
Eluveitie
Fanfarlo
First Aid Kit
Heartless Bastards
Jack White
Lamb Of God
Leonard Cohen
Torche

These are all bands/artists that are keeping music current and evolving, which is the most important thing.

Hey, I'm just saying that I don't think that kind of music requires much talent. I personally think everyone can just download some sort of synthesizer off of the internet and put some random tones together. That said, it's just my opinion. I can understand why some people would like it, and I have no problem with other people liking it either. I just don't like it myself.

So suggest me some bands/artists, and tell me what your favorites are. (I prefer actual music, not things like dubstep and the likes. It has to be with actual instruments, not someone who holds their microphone next to his/her washing machine and calls it "dubstep")
So, let's get this party started! :D
ok then mr music conosuir with you oh so obviously brilliant taste in music

so this isnt music?

[spoiler/]
and this isnt music?

[spoiler/]
I take it this isnt music eather?

[spoiler/]
you probably think this IS music dont you?

[spoiler/]
did you know HE got that from THIS guy

[spoiler/]
and acording to you this guy doesnt make real music

I'm not saying you have to like thins I like...but you are not an authority on what counts as real music

and cmon....coldplay? If I were to make a guess here it doesnt sound like youve got much range
No, I don't think it's real music. I have respect for the people who make it, but I still don't count it as music. I have no problem with the people who make it, nor with the people who listen to it, but I don't like it myself. And yes, Coldplay. I like them.

why?

does it sound inferior to you?

do you think it doesnt require talent?

does it not fit some kind of definition you have?

you dont have to like it but weather or not somone uses synthasisers (like trant reznor) to guitars makes no difference

Bloc Party. I think (bar the fantastic melody and natural rhythm that they have in their music), the reason that I love it, is because of Kele's (the lead singer's) voice. It's gloriously glorious.

Blind Guardian. I'm actually obsessed, I love them so much. I've seen them live once a year for the last few years (even if I had to travel abroad to do so) and... yeah, they're a big part of my life.

Hansi Kursch's voice is incredible, he is truly gifted and someone I hugely admire.

Their songs usually cover pretty nerdy topics- Tolkien, mythology, sci-fi, history. Their fourth album (considered by many to be their best), Nightfall in Middle Earth, is a concept album that tells the story of the Silmarillion. Glorious XD

They've been around for decades but are still regularly releasing new albums, experimenting with their style and touring. They also don't eclipse the music with over the top personalities, looks or behaviour (not that I always dislike those things, but variation is nice). They're just four really talented guys who love what they do.

The fanbase is awesome too, if you ever do get *really* into them. It really feels like a community at gigs, especially in their native Germany, where they're pretty big.

EDIT:

You rule. Coldplay are awesome, and let nobody tell you otherwise. Also, stay away from the Guardian's music section.

Muse, though, are probably more awesome.
