Afraid that's not an Emperor, the prow is wrong, it's too small and there's no launch bays, I'm afraid the 40k wikia is generally pretty shit. That looks most like a Lunar Class Cruiser. This is the Emperor.

Hrm... Let me see... its a toss up between the Super Star Destroyer class , because its firepower alone could reduce a planet to slag (seriously the Empire could have just produced a bunch of these instead of 2 Death Stars and basically leveled a planet anyway) and the TIE Defender (another blunder made by the Empire... had they gone with shielding on TIEs prior to the Advanced model, the pilot survivability would have been higher and the Rebels wouldn't have had a snubfighter advantage).

I always liked the idea of living ships as in Peter F Hamilton's (somewhat obnoxious) Nights Dawn trilogy, where the ship and the ships captain had a mental connection and each ship had it's own personality and character. There weren't really any good illustrations for it, but this book cover visualises them pretty well I think.

On just looks alone I always liked the Defiant from DS9 and The Executor Super Star Destroyer from Star Wars.

If we are going into function too, I like the ships that have AI's. Like Andromeda or Talon from Farscape (never really liked Moya though, maybe it's because of her being weaponless).

I am a fan of the clean, ultra-modern look with ships such as Mass Effect's Normandy and U.S.S Enterprise from the new Star Trek movies. I would prefer the Normandy as it seems more like a shared house with mates rather than a city full of 'red-shirts'.

As for Culture ships, pretty sure non-standardisation was the norm each mind chose its configuration, and with field tech, you could look how you pleased.

The only exception would be warships, while being accomplished at war, the Culture would be at pains to admit it. Hence the brutal class designations given to ships designed purely for that purpose. As a result they are fairly basic, engines, crew modules and weapon pods.

They are judicially re-classed too, after hostilities have ceased, from warship to 'fast picket' or 'Demiliterised ROU' and the like.

The ship's Mind is also encouraged to calm it down, adopting avavtars of a less martial or standard nature (some of them are WAAY cuter too )

I've always been a fan of the USS Voyager form Star Trek. Say what you will about Voyager as a series that's probability the most solid ship Star Fleet ever built. I also rather like the Asari ships form Mass Effect.

Picard faced the Borg, and after it was done ruining his life, he stood in his office and drank Earl Grey. Benjamin Sisko faced the Borg and after it was done ruining his life, he fumed in an escape-pod; then went off to design a ship whose only purpose is to kill Borg. It's a set of guns strapped to an engine. Then he called it Defiant, a name that practically shakes its fist at the Borg. That was his second choice, Starfleet felt that the "USS Ben Sisko's Muthafuckin Pimp Hand" was too long.

I like Picard, but he always was a little too utopian for my taste. At least the Picard of the series. Movie Picard was a badass.


OT: Pretty much anything the Covenant has. The Long Night of Solace was not only beautiful, it could singlehandedly destroy your entire motherfuckin' planet!
