What is your favorite spinoff?

Some game franchises are just plain huge. Too huge, perhaps, to stick to a single genre or storyline. These mega franchises on occasion produce spinoffs: games based on the original characters or premise while doing something completely different. So what's your favorite spinoff?

To me, there is only one answer: Mario Kart. It's got characters I've grown to love racing in wacked-out courses throwing random shit at each other! Good times.

Well it's not a game per se but I really like the entire Star Wars Expanded Universe. I discovered it a couple of years ago and it astounded me how huge it was, and how all the books and games and films tie into each other.

yea the shin megami tensei games have lots of great spinoffs, but my favorite is nocturne

Knights of The Old Republic. It took the Star Wars universe, all of the ideas, and made them into something original(in a sense) and amazing. If that counts, then that is my answer, but if not, I choose Mario Kart.
