One day as lion

They are a supergroup started by Zack de la Rocha and John Theodore from Rage Against the Machine and The Mars Volta. They only have five songs that I know of but they Rock!

Listen to the rude Bass on their song "One Day as a Lion"

I've heard of Girls! My favorite song of theirs is Lust for Life... so amazing! As for unheard of band, well i could fill up a whole dissertation with them. But some big ones are Xiu Xiu, Ariel Pink, CocoRosie, and of Montreal (although they're pretty popular i think... right?).

Tie between Bedouin Soundclash and Faunts (though more people seem to know about them than I thought)

Both amazing bands.

check them out
How can you list Faunts and not link to M4 Part 2, ie the credit music for Mass Effect? Or even the music video to that song? To this day that song is my best running music. (I actually got chills up my spine when Commander Shepherd was done with his little speech and M4 started.)

Music video goodness

That's not even the entire song. The whole thing is around 8 minutes and full of awesome.

Well, I only like Kasabian.
Seriously, they're awesome.
But they ARE well known aren't they? Based on their record sales at least...

I love that song but I think that ones the first one everyone reaches for when they suggest the band, and I think their stuff from Feel.Love.Thinking.Of. is brilliant. Explain is easily one of my alltime favourite songs. Just such an incredible piece of music.

I'm actually concerned about their status as a band, as I haven't heard anything from them in quite some time...:(
Hopefully it just means they're busy working on new stuff.

Cage the Elephant, they did the opening song for Borderlands: Ain't No Rest for the Wicked, and their other stuff is good too.
the fact that one of their songs was featured in a mainstream title and 2 of their songs on pop radio stations pretty much excludes these guys from this thread. though they are good. as for me, i dont have any. sorry!

I don't think they are small or unheard of. Well most my friends know who they are.

OT: Wouldn't know. Maybe Ludovico Einauldi. I think thats how you spell it. Oh and Phillip Glass.
i dont know anyone who knows who the bloody hell they are except me :(

Bedouin Soundclash

Faunts
Probably because they did the Mass Effect credit song. That's where I first heard them.

For Me, It'd be Just Like Vinyl and Cinemechanica
http://www.myspace.com/justlikevinylwa
They're just starting out, but they've got the guitarist/singer from The Fall of Troy.
I am a bit surprised by no one mentioning Fall of Troy. They're less mainstream than a lot of the stuff people posted, yet they are considered very mainstream among the fans of stuff that sounds like that.

Cinemechanica is another amazing band that sounds similar to The Fall of Troy/Just Like Vinyl with amazing guitar work all around.

Here's The Fall of Troy's biggest song:

It was featured as a bonus song in Guitar Hero 3

Tryo and seeed. Both are actually big bands but I've never met anyone outside France and Germany respectively who has heard of them.

As for a totally unknown band... Bjørn Hellfuck.
Impossible to classify...just listen if your interested.

Well, anyone who's heard of Agalloch gets multiple cookies.
One of my favourite bands.
I know them, though granted it took random searching and clicking through the metal archives a while back. Their one album I could find was pretty good though.

Wow, thanks for that tip, my metal horizons have just expanded xD

Hmm my entries would be..

Temnozor(Russian folk metal-ish? Not really your typical metal)
Moonsorrow(Finnish errr black/viking/folk metal according to the archives, it's slow and mellow for its classification though. Just a different sort of music from the next band)
Kromlek - their '07 album 'Strange rumours..distant tremors' is pure gold

Little known bands I love have to include:

Story of the Year (well they used to kinda be well known, but not sure if that's so true of the present moment)
Lorene Drive
Monty are I
Conditions

And many, many more. I love them <3

Strapping young lad is also a really good metal band. Well it's somewhat known but underrated.
